PowerTest, T&D World magazine prove arc-flash mitigation isn't 'optional' anymore
Arc-flash mitigation was a hot topic around the PowerTest exhibit floor last week in Anaheim, and not just because NETA's electrical service companies have a lot to risk when it comes to servicing power equipment. T&D World magazine's recent article, "Utilities Must Mitigate Arc Flash Hazards," helps explain the drive behind the electrical industries' growing interest in arc-flash mitigation when it details arc-flash's destructive power, but like so many industry articles on arc flash, the answer always lies with wearing more PPE layers...which is like saying, I'd rather have a car built out of rubber so I bounce off stuff instead of adaptive braking, back-up cameras, and collision avoidance sensors.
Is a buggy whip really the best answer to going faster? Don't think so.
