Meet A Budweiser Clydesdale

at Poydras Home Tuesday Morning

Through the generosity of the Riess

family, Poydras Home residents and

families will have the opportunity to

meet a Budweiser Clydesdale horse

on Tuesday, February 18 at 10:00 a.m.

in the circle driveway of our front lawn

facing Magazine Street. Meet this

majestic animal before the Budweiser Clydesdale team appears in

upcoming Mardi Gras parades!

Mardi Gras is an especially fun time at Poydras Home with more

than a dozen parades passing right by our front door. Due to the

volume of campus visitors, Poydras Home implements the

following parade procedures:

  • During parades at Poydras Home, all guests, including

family members, must check in at the Arbor reception desk at

our 825 Jefferson Ave. entrance to receive wrist bands.

  • Due to parade line ups, NOPD will not allow access to the

Poydras Home parking lots from 3:00 p.m. until after all parades.

  • Poydras Home gate codes will be changed during the

Mardi Gras season, requiring all visitors, including family members,

to be buzzed in by our receptionist. After Mardi Gras, resident family

members will be issued new gate codes.

  • Guests are encouraged to use our provided temporary,

outdoor restrooms.

  • Families are invited to bring their resident to view parades

and return your resident to their room afterwards. Our staff

capacity does not allow us to escort residents to attend parades.

Save the Date...

Our annual fundraiser is changing this year. Save the date to experience Julien Poydras' Jubilee on the evening of Thursday, October 23.

We will still host our Tree Lighting as a free Family Night in December.

What is a

Shelter-In-Place?

Our historic snowstorm in

January marked Poydras

Home's first Shelter-In-Place

that wasn't related to a hurricane. You may wonder, what exactly is

a Shelter-In-Place? Poydras

Home is required to follow

state regulations in response

to potential hazards. When

an evacuation is not necessary,

but maintaining staffing is a concern due to transportation

limits within the City of New

Orleans, a Shelter-In-Place

positions employees on campus

to care for our residents for the

duration of the event. During a

Shelter-In-Place, our campus is closed to all visitors. Members of our Strike Team both work and sleep at Poydras Home. Remember, Poydras Home has backup generator power throughout our campus and emergency contracts with vendors to ensure we have everything we need to weather the storm, whether it be a snowstorm or a hurricane.
