Equipping farmers to build resilient farms and communities.
Did you know that Practical Farmers of Iowa offers a range of cost-share programs to help farmers and landowners make their farms more resilient?

These programs provide financial incentives and technical support to help farmers and landowners implement and master a variety of resilient farming practices.

We now have a new, streamlined page on our website to house all of our cost-share offerings including our newest cost-share programs to help farmers establish rotational grazing systems and adopt edge-of-field conservation practices.

Two cost-shares are currently open and accepting applications:

We are currently hiring three positions. Head to our employment page to learn more about each:

Jane Shey is no stranger to complex conversations and long-term goals involving agriculture. For over 30 years, she has worked in federal and global ag policy, research and consulting.

But after returning to Iowa at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, she is more earnestly working on a complex agricultural project closer to home: cultivating her role as advisor to her mother on their family’s farm.

“Bet The Farm: The Dollars and Sense of Growing Food in America,” by PFI member Beth Hoffman, is an in-depth look at the economic challenges of starting a farm through the eyes of a journalist who has recently transitioned into farming.

UPCOMING EVENTS
Join us for a screening of our feature-length film, "Livestock on the Land," on Saturday, May 21 from 7:30-10 p.m. in Harlan, Iowa.

The film goes beyond the science to show how livestock are central threads connecting people, diversifying farms, protecting soil and water and anchoring rural communities.

Connect with fellow PFI members and staff at our upcoming open house on Monday, June 6 from 3-5 p.m.!

We have remodeled our office, bought a popcorn machine and are now ready to begin a full season of in-person events together.
Our full field day season will be announced in next week's issue of "Practical News." Stay tuned!
