NEWS
In broad-brush, "Livestock on the Land" is a story about regenerative grazing and its promise for the Iowa landscape.

Up close, however, it’s a story about people – the farmers driven by love of family, land and livestock to seek more resilient solutions, and the community that emerges when livestock are on the land.

UPCOMING EVENTS
Join us tomorrow in Holland, Iowa, from 11:30 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. to hear from Fred and Vicki Abels.

Fred will discuss his cover crop practices, including termination with a roller-crimper following both corn and soybeans, and how this impacts his use of herbicides.

Fred will have his roller-crimper and no-till drill on display during the field day, alongside crimped covers among growing field crops.
Join Kate Mendenhall for a tour of Okoboji Organics on June 17 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Okoboji Organics is a small certified organic family farm in Okoboki, Iowa, raising healthy food for local families.

We’ll walk through the pastures to visit pigs, chickens and turkeys; look at how the Mendenhalls process poultry on-farm for direct sales; visit the farm store; and share a pulled pork lunch together. Okoboji Organics was certified organic in 2019.

MEMBERSHIP
This spring we have a bold goal of raising $40,000 to expand our offerings that nurture resiliency among Iowa’s farming communities. One such initiative is our new Farm Business Coaching program that provides farmers with one-on-one business assessment, recommendations and coaching.

Amber and Preston Gable own Backcountry Winery near Stratford, Iowa, and are part of the new program. The Gables hope to grow their business to the next level, including with a farm-to-table restaurant. “We joined this program to receive a fresh analysis of our current operations and suggestions for areas of expansion.”

Donate to PFI today to help us reach more farm businesses and improve their viability.
