Practical Farmers began coordinating on-farm research trials addressing nitrogen rates more than 30 years ago. This year, we have funding to do 20 trials testing whether farmers who have been planting cover crops for at least five years can reduce nitrogen inputs without sacrificing yield.
Our goal is to expand the footprint of this project so we can get solid data that can inform future soil health practices and nitrogen application decisions.
