A Note from our Executive Director

Dear friend,

How do you show appreciation? How do you like to be appreciated? These are the questions I asked my team during the reflection time in our weekly meeting.

Focusing on gratitude is a great way to promote emotional well-being. There is so much I am grateful for. I am so grateful for the opportunity to do important and meaningful work at IVYP. I appreciate our dedicated staff, who are working hard to care for our community every day, who are speaking out against injustice, and who are doing their best to mitigate the effects of poverty, racism, and trauma. I am grateful to the IVYP board for their support and their trust.

And, I am grateful to you – thank you for reading our newsletter each month.

This month, our Family Fiesta also focused on gratitude. The children and their caregivers shared how they show appreciation and how they like to be appreciated. I invite you to take some time to appreciate the important people in your life, and to allow yourself to feel appreciated.

Ana Maya Honored as Local Hero

IVYP is incredibly proud of our very own Family Resource Center Program Manager, Ana Maya who has been honored as a Local Hero by the Santa Barbara Independent. Ana works tirelessly to best serve the families of the FRC. Whether it be lifting heavy pallets of fruit and vegetables during food distribution, supporting families in crisis, teaching parenting workshops, or leading her team of family advocates, Ana goes above and beyond every single day. Congratulations Ana on this well deserved recognition of your hard and important work!
Gaucho Women's Basketball Hosts Fansgiving

Thank you to UCSB Women's Basketball for supporting IVYP this year during their Fansgiving canned food drive. During the home opening game any fan who attended and donated a can of food was able to enter for free. These donations will help to stock our emergency food pantry that is available to any family experiencing a crisis. This support makes a huge difference. Go Gauchos!
Vaccine Clinic

IVYP is proud to participate in Vaccinate All 58 by hosting our next vaccine clinic vaccine clinic on December 2nd from 3:00pm - 8:00pm at the Goleta Valley Community Center. We will be providing vaccines for children and adults 6 months and older. At our last vaccine clinic earlier this month, we were able to administer 99 vaccines!

Harvest of the Month

Each month we share a healthy, easy and affordable recipe to try that highlights ingredients you can get at our food distribution and weekly farm stand. This month we are highlighting leeks! Ever wonder what those giant green onions are? Well those are leeks and they are the milder, sweeter cousin of the onion. Leeks are low in calories but high in nutrients and antioxidants. We love this simple and delicious recipe for leek and potato soup to enjoy on those cool fall nights!

IVYP needs your support as we work hard to support our community. We’ve stepped up and we need your help to continue. Please consider a donation to IVYP’s COVID-19 Response Fund to help us continue to provide the caring, proactive and flexible support our community needs.
Be a diaper champion by sponsoring the cost of diapers for local families. Diapers are one of the most consistent requests from our families at our FRC. Disposable diapers can cost as much as $100 per month per baby so every contribution makes a big difference.
