Happy 100th Birthday,
Prairie Avenue Christian Church!
Established September 26, 1924
|
Seventh Street Christian Church began on Friday, September 26, 1924 when 75 members of Central Church of Christ (now Central Christian Church) and First Christian Church gathered at the property on East Prairie and Seventh (now 22nd) Street purchased by the Decatur Missionary Society to establish a new congregation on the east side of Decatur. The land was purchased from Mahlon Rambo, and the volunteer workers from each congregation built a wooden frame building from foundation to roof that day. The workers ate their lunches prepared by some of the ladies of the two churches at the Pines mansion at noon. With plaster still drying in the new building, a dedication service was held in the evening. Cash and 90-day pledges were secured in the amount of $2,125 (approximately $39,120 in 2024 dollars).
On the following Sunday, Reverend Robert R. Finlayson, who became the first minister, conducted the first service, and 29 persons responded to join the congregations. Among the charter members of the congregation was E.J. Muffley, whom Muffley School is named.

What an inspiring 2024 DMF Day!
Thank you for generously supporting Disciples Mission Fund and helping us reach our goal of 236 gifts.
261 gifts $34,946 to support
Disciples Mission Fund
Together, we made room for more.
Together, we celebrated the 236th birthday of Alexander Campbell, the legacy of the Stone-Campbell movement, and all the life-changing ministry we can do because of the Disciples Mission Fund of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
Together, over 4 DMF Days, we shared the good news of our mission fund with our congregations and neighbors, ministry partners, and friends.
Together, we discovered connections, ministries, and resources, and learned more about how we're working together to do more than we can alone.
Thank you for making room for more.

Kroger Community Rewards Program News
|
$19.84 was raised by 12 households who have linked their Kroger customer reward cards to support Prairie Avenue Christian Church. The quarterly contribution is for shopping at Kroger from April 1 - June 30, 2024
Because our total quarterly contribution is less than $25, which is the minimum check amount, we will not be receiving a check at this time. This amount will be held and combined with your next quarter's contribution total until your contribution amount exceeds $25. At the time your total contribution reaches $25, or the end of the program term, whichever comes first, your organization will then receive a check.

Share Your Faith by inviting 5 people to church this year | |
The God you worship is always revealed through your words and actions. Awkward conversations (i.e. "Are you saved?") are not necessary when your words and actions reveal the God you seek to learn, love, and serve.
