birthday-themed plates she created for the auction.

The Prince Avenue National Art Honor Society’s 9th Annual Empty Bowls silent auction was held January 25th - 29th. PACS high school NAHS members, along with faculty members, created 49 beautiful handmade pottery bowls and filled the bowls with goods. A variety of themes were presented such as coffee, edible goodies, soaps, and small potted plants.
All proceeds from the auction will go directly to A Bigger Vision, a local Athens-area homeless shelter. PACS NAHS has donated more than $20,000 to A Bigger Vision over the past eight years, and because of the generosity of the PACS community, this year’s auction raised $3116 to add to that total.
PACS High School Visual Arts teacher Meghan Hudson is the organizer of Empty Bowls at PACS and sees the program as an opportunity for PACS students to use their talents to benefit others and glorify God. “This helps fill a huge need in our community and is appreciated more than the donors can ever know.”

This semester, Mr. Delgado has brought in Prince alumna and children’s author Mez Blume (‘06) to lead the writers in a writer’s masterclass. Mez covers a multitude of writing topics such as journaling, drafting, editing, revising, peer-reviewing, and conferencing. Ultimately, students will gain the experience of publishing their work.
Currently, students are working on a narrative story that will be submitted for adjudication in the Association of Christian School International Creative Writing Festival. In addition, the team will compile and publish an anthology of all of their stories which will be added to the PACS Media Center book collection.
Mez explains that she has been quite impressed with the Prince Writers. “I have thrown all manner of new ideas and exercises at them, some quite advanced, and they have taken on every bit of it. That tells me that there is some strong author potential at PACS.”
