Seniors on Mission in Costa Rica
During the week of March 3rd - 9th, the senior class traveled to San José, Costa Rica to work in partnership with Joshua Expeditions. Joshua Expeditions has
cultivated partnerships with many different ministry leaders in the urban setting, and Prince students worked alongside these organizations.
Prince students describe the experience as life-changing. Delaney Cook spent most of her time assisting in a local daycare. "I got to play with kids and teach them about Jesus, and even though there was a language barrier, that didn’t stop the love of God from reaching those kids. They have so much joy, like I’ve never seen before, and they honestly taught me more about my relationship with God than I could have ever taught them."
In addition to the daycare, Thomas Ross also assisted in a ministry called the Abraham project in which they helped to build houses for single mothers as well as an inner city ministry in which they worked to minister to teens in the area. "Overall it was an amazing experience, and I would go back tomorrow."
Will Todd explains that the week in Costa Rica taught him about the importance of supporting other organizations whose main mission is to share Christ with others. "Through this experience, God showed me that if I am giving my time and energy to those who spend all their time bringing people to Christ, then I am helping God’s mission." Will shares that this revelation has helped to put his future into perspective. "I can use my resources and free time to help further the progress of things God has already put in place no matter what career I choose. The senior mission trip was an awesome experience where I learned things I will take with me for the rest of my life."

Seniors Minister in Local Missions
The seniors that did not travel internationally during the week of March 4th - 8th worked each day with a local ministry. Students donated their time at the Sparrow's Nest, Atlanta Mission Thrift Store, and F.I.S.H. Sam Smith explains her experience. "We helped provide meals, drinks, and clothes for those in need at the Sparrow’s Nest and helped sort canned food and clothes at F.I.S.H. and Atlanta Mission Thrift. Overall, it was really eye-opening for me to see how many people are in need in my own local area, and I’m glad I could contribute to various good causes."

Distinguished Speaker, Congressman Jody Hice
On Wednesday, March 20th, Prince Avenue Christian School welcomed Congressman Jody Hice as a part of the Distinguished Speaker Series. Congressman Hice spoke during middle and high school Chapel.
Congressman Hice spoke with students about the importance of character. He explained that character is based on the choices a person makes, therefore students should evaluate their choices. Congressman Hice said, “The decisions you make are the outgrowth of what you believe to be important.” He encouraged students to put God’s Word in their hearts so that when life “shakes” them, the Fruit of the Spirit is what comes out. Congressman Hice also explained that adversity builds character. “Hardships, adversity, and circumstances that cut against our grain test us every day...but those hardships, adversities, and circumstances produce endurance...and endurance produces growth...and growth produces character.”
The Distinguished Speaker Series is part of Prince Avenue’s four-pillar Christian Character Development program designed to encourage students to strengthen their walk with Christ as they face the everyday challenges of the contemporary culture. The other three pillars of the program include small group discussions regarding the speaker’s content, the student Honor Code, and volunteer service participation. This week, students will have small group discussions based on Congressman Hice’s talk.

Third-grade teacher Sue-Nell Smeltzer explained that the project sparked awareness in students that there are many children in difficult situations."Students were quick to admit that there are many people in need and that we should look for more ways to help them."
