Senior Gracie Martin Comes Full Circle
as Barnabas Mentor
At least once a week, Prince Avenue Christian School senior Gracie Martin can be seen around campus meeting with a younger student. The two might be playing a game, working on homework, or just talking about their day all as part of the school’s Barnabas Program.

Gracie knows what a younger student needs in a mentor because she herself was once in need of the encouragement and the example set by an older Prince student. When she was a lower school student, Gracie was mentored by the Barnabas Program’s founder, Anne Barron Tufts (Class of ’09).

Prince Hosts Special Veterans Day Ceremony
On Monday, November 11th, the Prince Avenue Christian School student body gathered for a special Veterans Day Ceremony. The school extended an invitation to local veterans to attend the ceremony and to be honored on their special day. Many of the veterans in attendance were family members of students.

This was the second year that the school sponsored this student-led ceremony, and the event was met with much enthusiasm by local veterans and their families as well as parents and visitors. More than 90 veterans attended representing all branches of the military. They were greeted in the entrance-way by lower school students holding American flags and were then escorted to a seat of honor in the front of the worship center.

Big Thank You Campaign
The Prince Avenue Christian School Interact Club recently sponsored The Big Thank You campaign in which students are encouraged to write letters to be sent to soldiers who are deployed overseas during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Members of the club visited classrooms to explain the process of writing the letters and assisted students as they designed and wrote their letters. This year, the club collected 780 letters, the most in the eight-year history of the campaign.

The Prince National Junior Honors Society completed a Thanksgiving food collection service project to benefit the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia. Students were asked to fill a box with a list of 24 specific non-perishable items. Thirty-four members participated collecting 1,232 pounds of food. This will contribute to 1,027 meals and serve 14 counties.

During an activity period for holiday door decorating, Prince high school students enjoyed a coffee break provided by Java Joy, a mobile coffee service sponsored through Extra Special People in Watkinsville. Special Guest Speaks to Middle School Classes
After completing a unit on minerals, Mrs. Sosbee’s sixth-grade science students enjoyed a visit from local jeweler and former Prince parent Dale Duncan. Mr. Duncan spoke to students about minerals and how the impurities in minerals make gemstones different colors. He also brought the students fluorite crystals that are shaped like diamonds when they are found in nature in the rough. Students completed this unit by breaking open geodes to see the minerals inside.
