The Broken Body of Creation

You are above me O God; You are beneath; You are in air; You are in earth; You are beside me; You are within. O God of heaven, you have made your home on earth in the broken body of Creation. Kindle within me a love for you in all things.

Would You Like to Join a Supper Club?

In response to our five-year Strategic Plan, the Congregational Life Committee is exploring the formation of Supper Clubs. These will be small group gatherings where participants can get to know each other better and share the fellowship of a simple meal. In order to better facilitate these groups, the Supper Club planning team asks that you respond to the initial questions in this survey meant to guide the formation, framework and development of Supper Club groupings of eight.

Meet Our Partners in Ghana

The Global Ministry Committee invites everyone to join them this Sunday, August 18 at 9:30 a.m. in the Land Building Riverside Room where we will meet with our Ghana Missionary Partners via Zoom. We will be talking with leaders from the Gethsemane Church and the Learning Center in Senchi Ferry, Ghana. Our partnership with the Gethsemane Church has helped to support their efforts in building a new sanctuary, Sunday school rooms, and offices for a quickly growing community. Our donations of books, laptops, and funds have helped to support the ongoing education of children and young people through the Ghana Scholarship Fund and the Senchi Ferry Learning Center.

Playground Playdate

The Spiritual Formation Committee is hosting a Playground Playdate this Sunday, August 18 from 4-6 p.m. at Alma Peters Playground, 346 Eleanore Street! Families with children of all ages are invited to join in the fun. BYOB and snacks.

YAF Cocktail Competition

All Young Adults & Families are invited to the YAF Cocktail Competition at the home of Emma Pegues and Matt Smith on Saturday, August 24 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Bring a cocktail or a mocktail to share with the group and we will vote on the best one from each category! RSVP to tyler@scapc.org.

Join the WNO Kitchen Crew!

We are recruiting volunteers to make up a new crew for Wednesday Night Out under the leadership of our new chef Matt McCann. No kitchen experience is required. We are looking for help mostly on Wednesday afternoons, but we also have the opportunity to adjust the WNO schedule to fit the needs of the congregation. We are considering several different ways for people to be involved, so if you have any interest in helping out, please email mcmccann55@gmail.com.

Café Reconcile Grand Finale Brunch

This Saturday, August 17, Café Reconcile will close out its Summer Brunch Series in style. Musician Nesby Phips will be back by popular demand. Reservations are available for parties of up to 8 guests and can be made by emailing reservations@cafereconcile.org. Café Reconcile is one of SCAPC's Community Ministry Partners. It is a non-profit workforce training program which prepares ambitious young adults for careers in the city's celebrated hospitality industry. Learn more at cafereconcile.org.

SCAPC 101

Our next SCAPC 101 will be held on Sunday, August 25, from 9:30-10:15 a.m. in the Land Building Lakeside Room. This class is designed as an orientation for new members and visitors interested in joining our church...or anyone wishing to learn more about SCAPC! We will talk about our basic beliefs as Presbyterians, the history of SCAPC, and how you can get involved in its ministries. Learn more in the meantime by visiting our membership page.

Blessed Backpacks

As part of our new 'Worship Shorts' series, 64 people, including SCAPC families and Pigeon Town neighbors, gathered for worship, play, and a 'blessing of the backpacks' last Sunday at Okra Abbey! Okra Abbey, a mission of the Presbytery of South Louisiana and a New Worshipping Community of PC(USA) is a community garden and a sacred space for the residents of the Pigeon Town neighborhood. Food is grown and shared along with scripture, prayers, and stories at each week’s “Grace and Greens.” Learn more at okraabbey.com.
