CBF Missionaries of the Week
Anna Anderson · Rocky Mount, North Carolina
|
|
Anna Anderson serves alongside her husband, LaCount, in Northeastern North Carolina with Together for Hope, CBF’s rural development coalition, focusing on providing poverty relief.
Anna and LaCount are involved with a community in eastern North Carolina called Conetoe. Conetoe is commonly called a “food desert.” The Andersons work with the Rev. Richard Joyner and the Conetoe Family Life Center to improve the health of the youth and community by increasing access to healthy foods, increasing physical activity and providing access to health services. The goal is to break the cycle of poverty by improving the resources available to families and children.
Through volunteers, residents, churches and other area organizations, the Center is able to provide healthy foods, resources and education to empower the youth and community. This creates new economic opportunities by engaging the community, whose history is rooted in the land, restoring sustainable resources, building partnerships, collaboration and self-preservation.

Collins Children's Home Meat Offering
|
|
We will be collecting money through Sunday, Dec 13 to buy meat for the Collins Children’s Home.
Make out your check to FBC Pendleton and include "Meat Offering" on the Memo Line so that proper credit can be given in your contribution records. You may give your check to Wayne Patterson, place it in the offering, or use e-giving to make your contribution (select Meat Offering-Collins Home).
Last year our offering was $2,345 so let’s see if we can top that amount this year.

|
We will have a Called Church Conference on Sunday, Dec 13 at 5:00 pm for the purpose of discussing the Proposed 2021 Annual Ministry Plan (Budget) and hearing recommendations from the nominating committee to fill some open slots on the deacon council.
The conference will take place on Zoom video conference; we will also offer the option of meeting in the Fellowship Hall to participate in the Zoom meeting via the projector. For those joining online, the link will be included in the Sunday email on Dec 13. For those joining in person, please wear a mask and observe social distance.
At the end of the discussion on Dec 13, the conference will be recessed until Sunday, Dec 20. At the end of Sunday morning worship on Dec 20, church members will have the opportunity to vote to approve the Proposed 2021 Annual Ministry Plan (Budget) and the deacon candidates. Voting will take place both in-person and online. If you are not comfortable with either of these methods, please contact the church office by Wednesday, Dec 16 to request a mail-in ballot.

Since resuming in-person worship in the sanctuary, we are exploring new ways of recruiting and using volunteers. Many of our regular volunteers are not able to serve right now due to health concerns. We also recognize that this “new normal” includes preparing for volunteers needing to cancel at the last minute (if they are not feeling well or find out they have been exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID.) Volunteering in worship is a meaningful and useful way to serve.
If you would like to volunteer as a greeter, candle lighter, reading Scripture, giving the Offertory Prayer, or camera operator, please use the buttons below or email office@fbcpendleton.org or call the office at 864-646-3913.
If you are not attending in person, one way you can volunteer is by creating a watch party on Facebook, which increases the visibility of our worship service video.

CBF Gathering Online

|
|
One of the unexpected blessings of this time of physical distancing is increased opportunities to worship with those in other locations.
CBF is offering a weekly gathering on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm.
Tune in on CBF's Facebook page each week for music, a devotional and prayer led by members of the CBF community and important words and resources from CBF field personnel, chaplains, and pastoral counselors and others carrying out essential ministry in new and faithful ways in these days.

At this time, the church office hours are limited as staff members are working from both home and church. If you need to come by the church when staff is present, please check with staff first. If you come into the church building please follow safety precautions, including:
-
Sanitize your hands before entering (a hand sanitizer dispenser is mounted outside the entrance near the office)
-
Wear a mask if others are present (masks are available at the entrance by the office).
If you call the church office, please leave a message; the church voicemail is checked regularly. If you have a pastoral emergency, please call Pastor Jennifer Rygg at 864-760-7135.

It seems we are at an intersection these days. Sometimes we may feel we are unsure of even a direction to take as news of the pandemic, tropical storms, wildfires, and less access to those organizations we depend on continues to assail us. As a clinician, I hear daily from individuals who have tremendous faith that God or their Higher Power will carry us through these difficult times and we will arrive at the conclusion that all is well.
A couple of months ago, I received an online resource that I have been sharing (old school through the mail) with individuals I felt might benefit from exploring worries, anxiety, fear, and general concerns that seem to shadow us right now. By following this link, you can access information that can help decipher the difference between worry and excessive worry. An activity menu will help you stay busy -- though you may have to remember to mask up and physically distance.
Use the link below to get the Guide to Living with Worry and Anxiety. Clicking the link will open a PDF document. Remember, too, we continue to see new and established clients via video through a couple of secure platforms. Should you wish to meet with me or another therapist, please call 1-888-293-7585. You may leave a confidential voice message if no one is available to speak with you.
May you find additional reassurance that all is well and expand or develop your faith.
Safe Journey,
Dede Norungolo, LPC, LAC, CAC
