Dear Prayer Partners,

Here are some sweet observations from our scribe ...

The Princess and the Pea

You may be familiar with the traditional fairy tale of The Princess and the Pea.  In the traditional story, the princess lays uncomfortably upon a stack of mattresses on top of a hidden pea.  In the Royal Family version of this tale, Coach Cindy, who plays the role of the princess, has loyally tried for 16 years to get comfortable on her camp bunk.  Year after year, she has been determined to find the most comfortable way to sleep while at camp.  She has tried the basic bunk mattress, and then she tried stacking two of the mattresses on top of each other.  Still dedicated to her comfort, she has tried a foam mattress topper on top of those two mattresses, but then she came to camp this summer with something new. Coach Cindy brought a twin sized air mattress to place on top of her two stacked bunk mattresses, finally finding the perfect sleeping set up.  This week, Coach Cindy alongside 95 adults have given up a week of comfort in their own beds to make a difference in these children's lives.  Please continue to pray for us while we are at camp this week.

Fairy Godmother

If you’ve ever wondered if, or even how, you are making a difference, stop and listen to the voice of God through these strong little voices.  A reminder was given to Grandma Karen as she was riding the bus with the young girls on the way to camp.  Grandma Karen was making her rounds up and down the aisle when she noticed a young camper who looked familiar.  She leaned towards the young girl exclaiming, “I remember you!”  The young camper replied, “Yes! I remember my first year at camp, I was having a hard time falling asleep.  You came in and patted my back to help me fall asleep.”  Grandma Karen felt tears in her eyes.  You don’t always comprehend or feel the impact you are making on those around you.  This young girl remembered the giant, safe impact Grandma Karen made on her years ago.  Trust that God grants us the invitation and permission to make long lasting change in these children's lives.  It’s as if Grandma Karen sprinkled a little pinch of fairy dust to create a beautiful connection to a child of God.

It's been a great first day of camp!

PRAYER REQUESTS:

  • Praying for Tuesday - this is the longest day for most of us, especially the kids. We have some special events on Wednesday and Thursday to make the days feel shorter but Tuesday is unique. Today (Monday) felt long for many of us so we are praying for a great Tuesday for these kids.
  • Praying for our counselors - praying for their continued strength and for God's love to pour into these kids.
