Dear Parishioners and Friends,
With heavy hearts, we offer prayers and support to our brothers and sisters at Annunciation Catholic Parish and School in South Minneapolis. In the wake of this senseless violence, we join Archbishop Hebda and the entire Catholic community in grieving the lives that were taken, and we hold in prayer those who are critically injured. We ask God’s mercy and consolation for the victims, their families, their classmates, and the entire Annunciation community.
We also pray for an end to violence, especially the scourge of gun violence. Tragedies such as these remind us of the precious gift of life, the vulnerability of our young people, and the responsibility we all share to ensure our parishes and schools are places of welcome, peace, and security.
As canonical administrator, I am working with Bridget Kramer, Principal of Community of Saints School in West St. Paul, to make sure their students and families feel safe and supported, and we continue to unite with them in prayer during this tragedy.
Here at Assumption, we have been actively reviewing and planning for improvements to strengthen our campus security. We are grateful for our dedicated security staff and for the increased presence and support of the St. Paul Police Department. In the coming weeks and months, we will be sharing with you more information about our ongoing commitment to remain vigilant in ensuring our parish campus is a safe place where everyone can come with confidence to worship, learn, and grow in faith.
Today, our prayer remains focused on Annunciation and those in South Minneapolis. May the Lord, who is our refuge and strength, grant comfort to all who mourn, healing to the injured, and peace to our communities.
Per a statement from Archbishop Hebda, there will be a prayer service this evening at 7 p.m. at the Academy of Holy Angels, 6600 Nicollet Ave., Richfield. To read Archbishop’s statement, click on: https://www.archspm.org/statement-regarding-deadly-shooting-at-annunciation-church-in-minneapolis/
A Prayer for Annunciation Parish and School
Loving God,
In the wake of today’s senseless violence, we entrust to your care the lives that were taken, those who are injured, and all who are grieving.
Surround the Annunciation Parish and School community with your peace,
and protect every child in all our schools with your loving care.
Give us courage, wisdom, and hope,
so that our parishes and schools may be places of safety, joy, faith, and love.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
May God bless you and your families.
