Pray for Guam & Saipan as Category 5 Super Typhoon Bavi Approaches the Marianas

Please pray for Guam and Saipan — especially the people of the Episcopal Church of St. John the Divine, St. John’s School, and St. Paul’s Church — as they prepare for the impact of Super Typhoon Bavi.

In an article in The Guam Daily Post, it states:

Super Typhoon Bavi roared into Category 5 strength early Saturday, and forecasters now say the massive storm could grow even more powerful before it reaches the Marianas.

The National Weather Service Weather Forecast Office Guam reported at 7:15 a.m. that Bavi's maximum sustained winds had climbed to 160 mph, up from a Category 4 ranking just hours earlier. Forecasters expect winds to peak near 175 mph on Sunday before the storm begins a slow weakening trend ahead of its passage through the islands.

God of the present moment, God who in Jesus stills the storm and soothes the frantic heart; bring hope and courage to all as we wait in uncertainty. Bring hope and peace with whatever lies ahead. Bring us courage to endure what cannot be avoided. For your will is health and wholeness; you are God and we need you. Amen. – Adapted from a New Zealand Prayer Book, page 765
