Praying for Peace

Like most of you, Israel and Palestine have been much on my mind this week. The tragedy unfolding there is heart-sickeningly awful, and as great as the catastrophe already is, it is just beginning. The cold-blooded murder of hundreds of Israelis as they peacefully went about their lives defies moral comprehension. There is no word to describe the gleeful killing of children and the elderly than evil. And whatever the militants may have hoped, their attack ensures the death of thousands more, for Israel will retaliate with brutal force. Before this conflict is over, tens of thousands may be dead, a whole region turned to rubble, and the possibility of peaceful coexistence between long-divided peoples set back decades.  


Although we were forced to cancel the pilgrimage to the region, which was to begin next week, in recent days I’ve been remembering past journeys in the Holy Land, and in particular two places in Jerusalem that have centered my prayers. I hope they may help center yours, too, for pray we must.

We mourn the death of Rolando Vital Melendez, beloved father of parishioner Rolo Melendez. We will celebrate a Requiem Eucharist for Rolando on Saturday, October 21 at 11:00am.

A service will be held for Betty Russell on October 23 at 2:00pm.


Rest eternal grant to them, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon them.

Remembering the Departed


In anticipation of All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days, when the Church remembers the great cloud of witnesses who have gone ahead of us in death, you are invited to share the names of those you know who’ve died in the past year for inclusion in the Book of Remembrance.


The Book of Remembrance will be available in the Gathering Space starting this weekend and will be placed before the Altar on All Souls’ Day.

Figs With Kids Mom's Night Out


Figs with Kids, our ministry for parents with children living at home, is hosting a moms-only dinner. They’ll gather in the Parlor on Sunday, October 15 at 6:00pm.

Damin Spritzer in Recital


Transfigured Nights presents organist Damin Spritzer in recital this Sunday, October 15, at 7:00pm. She will play a varied program of English, German, and French music demonstrating the beautiful colors of the Transfiguration’s Jerry D. Godwin Organ. Her Transfiguration recital is presented as one of the Second Dallas International Organ Festival 2023 offerings.


The program is open to all and free of admission.

EMF Celebrates Oktoberfest


Come join the EMF in their annual celebration of Oktoberfest on Thursday, October 19th at 6:30pm! There will be lots of wurst and other German treats on the menu. 


The guest speaker will be Tracey Hull, the Director of Development of Café Momentum, the Dallas-based restaurant chain transforming young lives by offering paid internships to justice-involved youth ages 15-19.

DOK Rosary Workshop Next Saturday


Our Chapter of the Daughters of the King will be offering a workshop Saturday, October 21 from 10:00am to 12:00pm, for anyone interested in learning about DOK and the art of making an Anglican Rosary. This workshop is limited to 12 participants and there is a $10 per person fee for materials so register early.

The Single Women Alone Network will meet Saturday, October 21 at 4:00pm in the Parlor. All single women who live alone, regardless of age, are invited to participate for support and fellowship.

Fellowship of the Fig Halloween


Get ready for spooktacular fun with our Young Adult Ministry! Join our Halloween potluck & fun at the church Youth Center, Friday, October 27 from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. Dress up, feast, and enjoy a hauntingly good time! Event is BYOB for those 21 and older, but we will have non-alcoholic options, as well.

Stocking Collection for Our Friend's Place


Help us fill Christmas stockings for Our Friend's Place.

 

Our Friends Place is a not-for-profit organization that provides supportive and transitional living resources for young women, ages 18-24, in the Dallas area who are struggling to find stability due to neglect, abuse, poverty or homelessness. 

 

This year at our Advent Festival (November 12) we will be stuffing Christmas stockings filled with items we hope to collect for the young girls living at Our Friends Place. Please help us collect the following items by sending them with your child to class on Sundays or by dropping items off in the box located in the gathering space between now and November 12

 

Suggested list of items that would be wonderful to have in the stockings.

  • Lip balm 
  • Shower Steamers
  • Make-up remover Wipes

Social Media empowers you to spread the word about all the things God helps us do here at The Fig in our mission to seek and serve Christ in all persons.


Step 1: Follow Transfiguration on our Social Media channels. We have a strong presence on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. You can click the links in the previous sentence to follow us but you can always find the follow-us options at the bottom of each E-news.


Step 2: Once you are a follower on these platforms, engage with our posts: Like them, comment, and share them on your own accounts to reach your friends.


Step 3: Post your own stories, reels, and newsfeed posts and add the hashtag: #transfigurationdallas.


Step 4: Share this e-news on your own social media. This is very easy to do. Click the share buttons in the footer of the E-news. It's a great way to let people you care about know what is going on here.


A special note about our YouTube Channel: Make sure you go to the channel and subscribe. That is the YouTube equivalent of following us. Then watch some of our videos, even if for a short time, and like them. Adding a comment will help a great deal. By doing these simple steps you will boost our visibility to people who search for churches in the Dallas area.
