A Message from Rabbi Brodkin
Dear Friends,
As we prepare for Rosh Hashana, I am pleased to present you with my latest Podcast, "The Hardest Chapter." This Podcast will offer you an essential lesson from the Akeda as you prepare for the New Year. I hope that you will also join me on Thursday, September 17, at 8:00 for a virtual Rosh Hashana Drasha, "The Joy of G-d is Your Strength."
As fires ravage major swaths of Oregon, I share my Tefillot for all those folks in harm's way. We Daven for the physical well-being of our neighbors and communities during this difficult time. The JFGP is collecting funds that will be used to provide relief for those devastated by the fire. Please join Kesser Israel in supporting this important initiative! You may donate here to help with this important cause. May Hashem have mercy on all those who have been affected.

As you are well aware, many Oregon communities have been evacuated from their homes. While we are not anticipating evacuation of SW Portland, we should stay tuned for updates and follow all county guidelines. One can leave their phone set "on" during Shabbat. If there is an emergency notification over Shabbat that you miss, one can replay the notification, but its best to do so in an abnormal manner, such as tapping the phone with your knuckle or some other abnormal manner. (In times of all out emergency, we would use the phone as normal for safety, but we are not anticipating that in SW PDX.)

This Saturday night, Selichos begin. We will be holding Selichos services at midnight Saturday night as well as at 7:30 am on Sunday morning. Please reach out to Tuvia Berzow to register or for more details. We are in need of more people to register.

If you would like to join our High Holiday services, please register today. We will have an indoor service for up to 50 people in the MJCC ballroom as well as an outdoor tent service, also for 50, behind the PJA. We anticipate beautiful Davening in all of our services, and are thankful to our Chazanim: Dov Brodkin, Rabbi Tzvi Fischer, Rabbi Sholom Skolnik & Gabi WeinbergWe do still have some seats available for all of our services, though we are filling up. If you would like to register, please do so ASAP.
The synagogue is charging a members’ as well as a non-members’ fee for the High Holiday seats to help defray the costs of running our services. No one will be turned away due to a lack of ability to purchase tickets. If you are in need of financial assistance, please see the registration form (it's self-explanatory). In addition, if you would like to support others in need of assistance or the services in general, we invite you to donate to Kesser Israel to help us provide our Jewish community with a great experience. Also for those Davening at home, we are going to be planning an additional outdoor Shofar blowing on Sunday, September 20. Please stay tuned for details.

Shabbat Shalom,

Rabbi Ken Brodkin
In-person services will be limited to 25 individuals and pre-registration is required. Please contact Tuvia Berzow with questions.
