WEBINAR on (Virtual) Waypoints

2025 Susan Hood Trophy Race

Opening the 2025 LOOR Racing Season was the 70th running of the race and Susan Hood herself made an appearance to mark the occasion. After consulting with the Racers the course was shortened from 75 nautical miles to 60 to keep boats in Canadian waters.  Of the two possible courses listed (clockwise and counter-clockwise) Echo course was announced as the choice at the Skippers’ meeting. This meant a counter-clockwise trip around the West end of Lake Ontario.

As forecast there was plenty of wind (and just a bit or rain). We saw 30 knots true wind speed at some points and most boats were able to maintain hull speed through most points of sail.  If it had been the normal 75 NM race it would almost certainly been a record setter. As it was, Afterburn – a Soto 40 - took both Line Honours and the Susan Hood Trophy for flying sails with an elapsed time of 7 hours, 10 minutes and 3 seconds – corrected to 8 hours, 42 minutes and 31 seconds. Congratulations to Afterburn, her skipper and crew! And congratulations to all who participated in a fast and challenging race.

LOSHRS Races 2 and 3

For the weekend of LOSH racers are being being welcomed to Bluffers Basin for evening of Saturday June 21 after racing from PCYC, and Sunday June 22 before racing back.

Lake Ontario 300/600 Pre- and Post-Race Events:

WEBINAR on Use of (Virtual) Waypoints as Marks:

In this year’s running of the LO300/L0600, the use of (virtual) waypoints as marks is a necessity to create courses. This is allowed and defined in Appendix WP - Rules for Waypoints (2025) to the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) (2025).

The Appendix is available HERE.

1930 EDT, Tuesday, June 17, 2025

Register HERE

As there are a number of nuances in using and complying with this rule, LOOR is holding a webinar to explain and answer questions. A recording will be posted on LOOR’s YouTube Channel, HERE.

All participants in this year’s LO300/LO600 or those interested in learning about (virtual) waypoints under the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) are encouraged to attend.
