The Standing Committee has several updates to share with you regarding the pre-convention meetings next week and our 180th Annual Convention on Saturday, Nov. 11.
Pre-Convention Dates & Venues Reminder:
As a friendly reminder, the pre-convention meetings will be held next week at the following venues. Each event runs from approximately 6:30-8:30 p.m. No registration is necessary.
- Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the Munnerlyn Center on the Episcopal School of Jacksonville, 4455 Atlantic Boulevard, Jacksonville.
- Wednesday, Oct. 25, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 100 Northeast 1st Street, Gainesville.
- Thursday, Oct. 26, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 211 North Monroe Street, Tallahassee.
Pre-Convention Livestream
We are striving to livestream all three pre-convention meetings. The meeting at Episcopal School of Jacksonville on Tuesday, Oct. 24 will be livestreamed on the Diocesan YouTube channel.
If you plan to watch one of the livestreams and hope to ask questions, please tune into this one, as we will have the capability to share the slideshow presentation virtually, as well as take questions remotely from the YouTube comment section. An archive of this livestream will be published in the days following if you cannot attend.
We expect the Wednesday and Thursday evening sessions to be livestreamed on the churches' respective YouTube channels but without the ability to interact. We will communicate that information as it is confirmed.
Convention: Proposed Expanded Slate of Nominees
We are working diligently to host a successful and sound convention. As we adopted and coordinated the planning of convention, we recognized the unique situation we were in, having to delay the convention 10 months, and the canonical and procedural difficulties it caused with convention business, such as valid nominees.
As a result, we have made the decision to propose that we expand the slate of nominees for each position, to include those who were nominated in this summer's window. This is to ensure our diocese may consider as many of our talented and capable candidates as possible, setting us up for what we hope is a united and strong 2024.
To establish validity from a canonical perspective, we will propose to pass a resolution at the start of convention that allows us to formally expand the slate of nominees. This resolution will be explained at each pre-convention meeting.
For now, you may view this proposed expanded slate on the Diocesan website here. This resolution will be discussed at the pre-convention meetings and we are happy to answer any questions on it.
