Black History Month exhibit in Baytown
Did you know? The first all black high school in Baytown was George Washington Carver High School. We are grateful to
Mr. J. Warren Singleton, a local historian and founder of The Baytown Carver High School Recognition & Preservation Society for his dedication in making sure history is not lost.

In honor of Black History Month, Mr. Singleton has an exhibit on display until February 28th at Precinct 2's J.D. Walker Community Center, located at: 7613 Wade Rd, Baytown, TX 77521.

Q&A with Daniel Uribe
Precinct 2 Workforce Development Division
Daniel has called Precinct 2 home for 30 years. Prior to joining Precinct 2, he worked in the non-profit sector helping veterans, opportunity and at-risk youth, and underemployed adults with job skills and searches.  READ MORE
Q: What programs are launching or expanding in 2022?  
A: This year, we’re launching a workforce development computer lab!
The computers and tools in the lab will be available for career research, completing applications, setting-up an email account, checking and replying to employment-related emails, and creating resumes. READ MORE

Q: What inspires you most about your job?
A: Changing lives. Specifically, helping people gain employment by using the uplifting and empowering aspects of workforce development. It makes me happy and proud to hear that a person we have worked with has found employment and can provide for themselves. READ MORE
Project update: 2 for '22!
Runners, cyclists, hikers, walkers, skaters, and anyone else who likes to move outdoors have 2 more reasons to celebrate -- the Bay Area Park multi-use path AND segment 3 of the Bay Area Hike & Bike trail are now complete!

Segment 3 of the Bay Area Hike & Bike Trail is a 7,000 foot-long, 8-foot wide varying sidewalk that runs along Bay Area Blvd. It's perfect for running, walking, or rolling while enjoying Bay Area Park and Armand Bayou Nature Center.

Neighbors can also get their hearts pumping while enjoying the scenery with the new shared-use concrete path inside Bay Area Park.

Budget Hearings
This month, Commissioners Court approved a new 7-month budget. LEARN MORE

This month, Commissioner Garcia led or voted in favor of the following items:
  • Enforcing 10% bail bond minimum: Commissioner Garcia presented a resolution urging the Harris County Bail Bond Board to enact a local rule to enforce a minimum percentage down payment by people accused of violent crimes to get bailed out of jail.
  • Raises for law enforcement: Commissioners Court approved the FY2022 budget and FY2023 planning budget which includes 5% salary increases for law enforcement boots on the ground officers and a starting salary of $87,000 for prosecutors at the District Attorney’s Office.
  • Tackling public nuisance: An investment $3 million approved for nuisance abatement projects in Harris County.
  • Early Childhood Impact Fund: Harris County will invest nearly $8 million in three early childhood education programs:
  • $4.6 million to the Texas Children’s Hospital for language and brain development in infants
  • $2.4 million to the non-profit First3Years for secure attachment and family reunification
  • $906,173 to non-profit The Alliance to expand home-based childcare programs 
  • Employ2Empower going countywide: Started by Commissioner Garcia last year, this program has helped dozens of people impacted by homelessness earn a living and start a new chapter in their lives. To learn more about the program, click here.
