Knowledge is power
Harris County launches SAFE Harris to provide a transparent and informational insight to the collaborative work and multi-million dollar investments being implemented to enhance public safety in Harris County. Earlier this year, Precinct 2 launched our own public safety page with information on investments in cops, courts, and community supported or led by Commissioner Garcia.

Commissioner Adrian Garcia was recognized as one of the Top Ten Texas Local Officials by Rising LoneStars for July 2022!
The list highlights local government officials who showed extraordinary leadership in the month of July. Commissioner Garcia's leadership on Employ2Empower was in the spotlight. The program connects homeless individuals with employment opportunities and resources. A year ago, it began as a pilot program in Precinct 2. It is now expanding countywide!

Q: During your internship, in what Precinct 2 departments or divisions did you work, and what did you do?
A: I spent most of my internship working in the Community Center Division, more specifically in the Call Center. At the Call Center, I did tasks such as creating and scheduling Precinct 2 events and activities in our online registration/reservations system CivicRec. We attended and helped execute events such as hotspot giveaways, ballroom dance socials, and pet food drives. READ MORE

"The accusation they make is against a policy that the state itself implements. It’s hypocrisy. While Greg Abbott and his friends in Austin are playing political games, we are governing working and solving real problems for Harris County.”
- Commissioner Adrian Garcia

This month, Commissioner Garcia led or voted in favor of the following items:
-
Bonds on the ballot: Commissioners Court passed, on a 3-2 vote, Commissioner Garcia’s motion to draft language to place road and drainage, parks, and public safety bonds on the ballot for this November. The bonds will total $1.2 billion, an amount selected because it will not result in new taxes for homeowners over the life of the bond.
-
Violent Crime Reduction Initiative: Commissioner Garcia moved to approve $575,000 in additional funding for the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Reduction Initiative, allowing investigators to work additional overtime targeting the most violent and serious offenders in the county.
-
Monkeypox vaccines: Commissioner Garcia successfully passed a motion to make additional monkeypox vaccines available for communities at the highest risk of contracting the virus.
-
Helping victims of trauma: Commissioners Court approved Commissioner Garcia's request for $75,000 for services at the UT Trauma and Resilience Center for victims of domestic/family violence and first responders.
-
American Rescue Plan Act funds:
- $29.5M in ARPA funds for Community-wide COVID-19 Housing Program (CCHP) – vouchers for housing, monitoring, management, mental health & substance treatment
- $14M ARPA funds for behavioral health, youth and families, and substance abuse counseling
