Carrying The Torch: From the Greatest Generation to Baby Boomers to Millennials

Carl Carpenter, a compassionate man of God and business visionary, became a supporter of Predisan’s mission in the late 80's. He loved the Honduran people, participated in numerous mission trips and considered this ministry one of his favorite charities. Following his dad's legacy, Rick Carpenter is also a gracious Predisan supporter.   Nate, Rick's son and Carl's grandson, recently devoted 6 months experiencing Honduran culture and becoming involved firsthand with the holistic approach to healthcare. He arrived during the peak of the dengue outbreak and participated in diverse activities in the programs and was able to see and experience Predisan's impact in the lives of the people served. Nate confessed that seeing how people live and the many challenges they face was an eye-opening experience.    "One thing I treasure most from this trip was making new friends in Christ, meeting new people and experiencing the culture," said Nate. This included teaching guitar lessons to CEREPA patients, helping during the Dengue Fever outbreak, and working to improve the physical conditions of the health center in La Colonia, Culmi. Predisan thanks Nate for carrying the torch of Jesus's light that was admirably held high by his Grandfather and continues as a legacy in the Carpenter family.

Program Interventions Since the pandemic, our 37 facilities have reorganized to guarantee access to regular healthcare, as well as preparedness to fight against COVID 19 and Dengue Fever at the primary care level.  Starting in March, 85% of all healthcare activities focus on contingency actions to prevent virus spread. Attended to and placed 176 patients with COVID 19 like symptoms under epidemiological surveillance by our family health teams Securing shelter-in-place for people requiring quarantine. Continued training and drills for treatment, care and transportation guidelines for patients who may test positive. Contingency training for local authorities and funeral homes in management of bodies that may succumb to COVID.  Researching COVID 19 lab testing feasibility for the Good Samaritan Medical Center.

"Celia Lett" Educational Development Program Updates Public school year goes from mid-February to November in Honduras. Due to the Pandemic shut down strategies, all schools are temporarily closed. Since technology is not widespread, specially for the more economically challenged or geographically spread out, most of our middle and high school students do not have a way to continue schoolwork at home.    Using biosecurity measures, our chaplains continue pastoral outreach to the families, and students are receiving dental check-ups and medical check-ups scheduled for this first semester. Our vocational nursing students are working in their one-year internship as auxiliary nurses in remote health centers of Culmi and Catacamas and are a great help. Our college students continue studies through online platforms.   Gratitude and thankfulness fill the hearts of our beneficiaries because of your faithful support to these educational opportunities that change their lives.

Groups and Brigades Spotlight We host nearly 30 groups and brigades annually. Volunteers provide their medical services and expertise, help with community projects, share in evangelism or engage as mission interns. In February, members of the Northlake Church in Tucker, GA visited: Chris Armstead, Crystal Girton, Brent Wiseman, along with board members Kyle Huhtanen, Doris Clark and others. They interacted with staff, visited health centers and fellowshipped with people in the various communities served by Predisan.   After the group spent time learning more about the programs and how the staff are impacting our communities, Chris Armstead shared, "I saw God at work in every Predisan employee. I am thankful to have experienced Predisan."
