Congratulations to Anthony McGill on his recognition as Musical America’s Instrumentalist of the Year. He is leading the way not only as principal clarinet in the New York Philharmonic, but also as an educator, convener, and conversation starter on racial justice and inclusivity.
He says, “A lot of these diversity initiatives will only have an effect when people understand why we should care about them in the first place,” he said. “It’s not about numbers. It’s about humanity and empathy and connection.”
