Mexico only unbeaten team as USA beats Japan and Korea falls to Chinese Taipei
Welcome to this daily summary of the Premier12, giving you the latest and greatest from the WBSC's flagship baseball tournament.
Living up to the name of "Super Round" the top two teams in the world didn't disappoint with world No. 2 USA returning to the winners circle thanks to a
4-3 win over world No. 1 Japan in front of nearly 28,000 fans on Tuesday. The spectators were certainly well entertained with not only 18 hits and seven runs in the contest but Japan pitcher
Yoshinobu Yamamoto also threw the
fastest pitch of the Premier12 at 158km/h during his only innings on deck. The win keeps USA's Premier12 chances alive as they improve to fourth with a 1-2 win-loss record. Japan are tied with Korea in second with a 2-1 record.
While Japan was battling with USA in the Tokyo Dome; defending champions and world No. 3 Korea lost their unbeaten record,
going down 7-0 to world No. 4 Chinese Taipei in Chiba. Starting pitcher Chang Yi was the star for the underdogs, staying on the mound for 6.2 innings, giving up four hits, four walks, with four strikeouts.
Earlier in the day, Mexico maintained their unbeaten run, notching up a
hard-fought 3-0 win over Australia, with center fielder Jonathan Jones the star after he homered the first pitch by Aussie starter Josh Guyer before nailing a fourth-inning double to make it 3-0. Jones again took centre stage later in the game, robbing Australian infielder Darryl George of extra bases with a diving catch.
The race for the Premier12 medal matches and Olympic qualification tickets heats up with two more games on Wednesday in the Tokyo Dome including top of the table Mexico taking on Japan at 19:00. USA takes on Australia in the earlier game at 12:00.

USA back in play, first loss for Japan
Tokyo, Japan – The USA defeated Japan 4-3 and earned their first win in the WBSC Premier12 Super Round. Six pitchers helped USA make the most of a strong pitching performance: 11 hits, including five doubles and a home run by the Anaheim Angels top prospect Jo Adell.
Chang Yi throws a gem as Chinese Taipei earns first Super Round win
Tokyo, Japan – Right handed pitcher Chang Yi pitched a gem tonight and led Chinese Taipei to a 7-0 victory over Korea the first win for the team in the Super Round. With this score, Chinese Taipei remains in the hunt to claim the Olympic spot for the Asian teams.
