Good News Family & Friends,

This past Sunday, Ray continued our series For a Whole Healthy Life by giving some great insight and encouragement about emotional health and the relationship between our feelings, faith, and facts (truth). To access Ray's message audio and notes, click here.

This Sunday, we're looking forward to taking Communion together. For some helpful info that I've written to help us better understand Communion, click here.

Perhaps, for many of us, Communion has been a boring, religious ritual that keeps us in church 10 minutes longer than we want to be there. I hate to admit it, but that was my experience growing up and for much of my adult life (even after becoming a Christian)!

The heart of Jesus' intention for Communion is not that it be a boring, religious, and ritualistic, but that it be meaningful, spiritual, and relational (with Him and each other). When Jesus instituted Communion with His disciples, He instructed them (and us) that when we take the bread and the wine, to do so "in remembrance of Me."

They didn't have cameras in 33 A.D., so Jesus gave the bread and wine as a picture for us to remember Him by. And it's not just in church, but every time we eat bread and drink wine (or juice), we have a picture to remember Jesus and His great love for us. The purpose of Communion is to help us to remember Jesus.

That being said, as we prepare for Communion this Sunday, I want to encourage us all to take a few minutes this week to remember the difference Jesus has made (or is making) in our lives. Questions for reflection... How did you first encounter Jesus? Who introduced you? What difference has being in relationship with Jesus made in your life? What are you most grateful for? What are you hopeful for?

And if you're still exploring faith and Jesus, that's great, too! Questions for reflection may include... Why is it that you're interested in Jesus? What are you hoping He can provide? What's holding you back from giving yourself in relationship with Him?

Whatever your background, we're expecting this to be a great experience of Communion and hope you'll join us!

THIS SUNDAY, JANUARY 22

Breakfast, Connection, Communion & Worship (10am)

Join us this Sunday (10am) at Monkey Wrench Brewing for breakfast, connection, Communion, and worship! We love to eat so feel free to bring breakfast food to share (if you'd like). We have a children's time available during the message. Dogs are welcome, too! For more info about Sundays, click here

NEW! Preparing for Worship (Good News and a Verse)

1 Corinthians 14:26 says, "When you gather to worship, each of you be prepared with something that will be useful for all.” Nicky Gumbel comments on that verse by saying, "If we all come to church with this attitude of being a contributor it will totally transform our services of worship.” I totally agree! So, I want to encourage us all to think about:

  1. What's some good news (a highlight) to share from this past week?
  2. What's a Bible verse that jumped out in my reading this week?

Sharing is totally optional (no pressure at all), but it's always so much better when people share, so I'd encourage you to take 1 Corinthians 14:26 to heart and at least consider it. :)

NEW! Lunch After Church @ Chipotle, Poké & Pita

If you don't have plans for lunch, stick around and grab lunch at Chipotle, Poké & Pita (3186 Lawrenceville-Suwanee Rd., Suwanee, GA 30024). They're all located next to each other, so take your pick, get your food, and grab a table together. This is a great way to connect, and get to know each other a little better. If interested, email Laura or let her know on Sunday, so we can have an idea of how many people to expect.

INSPIRATION

Quote of the Week

“The difference between blessed and stressed is often just rest.” - Rick Warren

Verse of the Week

“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy." - Exodus 20:8-11

Drue wrote down his answer in less than 30 seconds and that was the first seed planted of Good News Church GA! Come hear his answer and the story of how Good News Church started, what we’re about, where we’re going, what we believe, and if you're interested, how to become connected as a community or covenant partner. Dinner is included, so it would help if you could RSVP here to Laura.

Join us in reading the Bible!

It's been said that the greatest predictor of a person's healthy spiritual life is the regular (daily) practice of reading the Bible. We believe it's one of the most important things we can do to connect to the heart of God and walk in relationship with Jesus. We also have found that one of the best resources available to help in this endeavor is Bible in One Year. It's an amazing (and free) resource! Download it via the APP Store and read and/or listen to the audio scripture and helpful explanations each day. Many of us at Good News Church GA are using Bible in One Year. Come join us!

VISION & VALUES

The vision of Good News Church GA is "to experience and express LOVE from God to others." The verse that undergirds our vision is Galatians 5:5b, “The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.” We value people, community, relationships, prayer, and Bible reading. We also value being able to be yourself. We’re all struggling with something, so there’s no need to pretend that we have it all together.

MISSION

The mission of Good News Church GA is "to connect with people and build relationships through community workshops, neighborhood-focused ministry, serving local needs, mentoring, and worship."

Need a daily Bible reading plan? Drue's favorite is the Bible in One Year APP
