URA's Virtual Office Hours are held as 1-on-1 meetings between the student and the selected Research Ambassador via BlueJeans. Research Ambassadors are here to help guide you and figure out your own interests, introduce you to an exclusive list of research positions at the Institute, and email professors.
URA maintains a database of labs interested in having undergrads for this very purpose of helping others start out on the research process. For those already involved in research, we can help with resume edits, applications to PURA and other awards, and practicing for conferences. The Undergraduate Research Ambassadors (URA) are a group of dedicated and distinguished undergraduate students who are committed to providing mentorship by helping students find research opportunities, improve communication skills, and gain access to valuable resources for undergraduate research at Georgia Tech. URA also provides its members with a network of support within the research community, social activities, and connections to our growing group of alumni.
If you are passionate about research and want to help other students find opportunities and improve their research skills, apply to be a Research Ambassador!
The URA application is due November 7th at 11:59 PM and the recommendation letter for the application is due on November 10th at 11:59 PM.

Focus is one of the nation's premier programs for raising awareness of graduate education. It is designed to attract high skilled students who have historically been underrepresented in higher education and encourage them to pursue graduate degrees, hopefully at Georgia Tech.
Focus invites students (third year through graduating seniors) to apply to attend this program, which is open to students around the nation. Accommodations, meals, and transportation subsidies will be provided for all accepted scholars.
The Focus Program provides an opportunity for scholars (students) to:
- learn about Georgia Tech's graduate degree programs
- Visit academic units and research laboratories
- Network with more than 100 scholars with similar interests and MORE!

"Engineering Human Tissues for Medical Impact"
Approximately 35 million men and women in the United States suffer from temporomandibular join, or TMJ, problems, and as many as one in four people experience symptoms of TMJ disorders, including pain in the chewing muscles, jaw stiffness, clicking, popping or grating, or the pain of arthritis.
Gordana Vunjak-Novakovic and her research team have been able to grow bone grafts that will math a patient's original jaw bone for facial reconstruction surgery to repair injuries, disease, or birth defects. This spectacular advancement in bone tissue engineering provides all the advantages of the body's original jaw bone. The team used real bone as a scaffold to grow the new TMJ graft.

The largest multidisciplinary and multicultural STEM diversity event in the country, the SACNAS conference is a gathering which serves to equip, empower, and energize participants for their academic and professional paths in STEM.
Over the course of the even, college-level trough professional attendees are immersed in cutting-edge STEM research, professional development sessions, motivational keynote speakers, and the Graduate School & Career Expo Hall, as well as multicultural celebrations and traditions, and an inclusive and welcoming community of peers, mentors, and role models. Simply put, the SACNAS conference is a broadly inclusive space where you are encouraged and empowered to bring your whole self to STEM.
This year's SACNAS conference will be a digital experience taking place from October 25 to October 29.

National Collegiate Research Conference (NCRC) is a large-scale, multidisciplinary forum held annually at Harvard University, where the most accomplished undergraduate students from across the Unte States and internationally convene each year to share their research in humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. The core vision behind our conference is to provide student researchers with the opportunity to hear from the world's leading authorities in academia, policy, and industry, as well as to foster important exchanges and dialogue between students. Through NCRC, we hope to expand the perspective of undergraduate researchers through offering exposure to diverse fields and to facilitate the discourse on collaboration, leadership, and social impact in research that we believe will be invaluable in future pursuits.
While we plant to host NCRC on Harvard's campus in Cambridge, MA we are actively monitoring Harvard University's COVID-19 guidelines and have contingency plans in place to transition to a virtual format if conditions worsen.

Are you considering applying to a doctoral program but don't feel ready yet? Consider applying to be a University of Chicago Booth School of Business Research Professional.
Pre-docs (sometimes called Research Professionals or full-time RAs) are two-year appointments working directly for faculty on their research in quantitative social sciences (QSS).
Students who are interested in graduate study in QSS fields but do not yet feel ready for a PhD program, or who are uncertain whether they want to pursue a PhD, find these positions to be especially useful. Students with rigorous quantitative backgrounds outside of the social sciences (e.g., physics, engineering) have used the pre-doctoral path to transition into QSS programs. Through their work for faculty, pre-docs expand their research toolkit, learn more about the research process, and pick up important credentialing through faculty letters of reference. These are competitively paid positions with full benefits.

The Summer STAR (Student Training And Research) Program provides opportunities for highly motivated and talented undergraduate students to develop skills as young scientists and to further explore their interest in biomedical research. STAR participants are matched to a biomedical research laboratory and engage in a research project under the guidance of an Augusta University faculty member and their lab team. The Summer STAR program provides excellent preparation and relevant experience for students planning to pursue a PhD or MD/PhD in biomedical sciences.
In addition to hands-on laboratory research experience, STAR participants attend workshops that expose them to a broad range of biomedical research techniques, approaches, and laboratory experiences available at Augusta University.

President's Undergraduate Research Awards fund student salaries to conduct undergraduate research with Georgia Tech faculty and offset travel expenses for undergraduates to present their research at professional conferences. Between two hundred and three hundred competitive awards are offered each year.
Salary Awards offer a $1,500 stipend to undergraduate students who are conducting research with a Georgia Tech faculty member or Georgia Tech Research Institute scientist. Both faculty members and students can initiate research projects, but the award proposal must be written by the student, and the student must apply by the established deadline for the semester in which the funds are requested. Funds are competitively awarded.Co-op students or students with full-time paid internships during a semester may not accept PURA funding during that same semester.

Undergraduate students whose research has been accepted for presentation at a professional or academic conference may apply for up to $1,000 in PURA Travel Award funding. Multiple travel awards can be granted within the same academic year, and students may receive a travel award during the same semester of salary award funding. Funds are competitively awarded.
At this time, we are only accepting PURA travel award applications for registration to attend virtual conferences. We will not be funding in person travel at this time. Please email allyson.tant@gatech.edu if you have further questions.
Applications are to be submitted no earlier than three months prior to the anticipated conference date and no later than one month prior to the anticipated conference date.

2021 Georgia Undergraduate Research Collective (GURC) Conference |
This conference provides a great opportunity for students to share the value of their research. The conference is a safe environment in which constructive criticism is given in a spirit of providing students with an opportunity for academic and personal growth.
Undergraduate students and their mentors are encouraged to plan to participate in this event on November 5-6, 2021 to be held at the University of West Georgia.
