Hi Jordan,

As we eagerly embrace the holiday season and with Thanksgiving just around the corner, the University of Dayton School of Law is thrilled to express our gratitude for the vibrant global community of students, faculty, and alumni that enriches our Online LL.M. program

In the spirit of thankfulness and growth, we extend a warm welcome to our new partner, the University of Adelaide in Australia as we embark on an exciting journey together. In this newsletter, we shine a light on exciting new announcements: a new course offering, an article on bar exam success with insights from our Online LL.M. grads, and the remarkable achievements of our students and faculty.

Additionally, we’ve kicked off our popular Tech Law Insights webinar series—and with two installments under our belt, we look forward to the next one occurring in February 2024. As we usher in this season of gratitude and renewal, we're excited to showcase the spirit of global unity and continuous learning that defines our online legal education community.

Wishing everyone a peaceful and bright holiday season!

Ericka CurranProfessor and Leadership Honors Program Director at the University of Dayton School of Law—joined us in August 2019 as an Assistant Professor in the Legal Professions department.

With a background spanning twelve years in clinical and experiential legal education, Professor Curran specializes in immigration and human rights. She holds a law degree from Seattle University School of Law and actively contributes to several organizations including the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA).

Professor Curran will be teaching the newly re-designed Spring 2024 course: Law 4000: Introduction to U.S. Law.

Get to know Professor Ericka Curran in the Q&A below!

What inspired you to become involved in the field of immigration?

I began my immigration career working with immigrant survivors of human trafficking. The courage of my clients has always been an inspiration to me. I have had the great fortune to study and work in other countries, and I cherish each international interaction I have had with clients.

Tell us about your new LL.M. course, Intro to U.S. Law for Spring 2024.

I am very excited to teach Intro to U.S. Law and to welcome our LL.M. students to the U.S. legal system. I am particularly excited about many of our engaging guest speakers.

How do you foster student engagement in your classes? What strategies are most effective in creating a dynamic online learning environment?

I enjoy learning about each student's background to tailor the course to the student's strengths and needs.

Are there any emerging trends or changes in your field that you find particularly intriguing or promising?

Increasing our understanding and engagement with AI is key to running an effective and ethical law practice, and we need to infuse these skills into our courses.

Preparing students to work internationally and across cultural lines is essential to the future of law practice. We are a global community.

What do you do for fun?

I enjoy traveling, and this past summer I hiked the Camino de Santiago from Porto to Santiago, Spain (see photo above!).
