What inspired you to become involved in the field of immigration?
I began my immigration career working with immigrant survivors of human trafficking. The courage of my clients has always been an inspiration to me. I have had the great fortune to study and work in other countries, and I cherish each international interaction I have had with clients.
Tell us about your new LL.M. course, Intro to U.S. Law for Spring 2024.
I am very excited to teach Intro to U.S. Law and to welcome our LL.M. students to the U.S. legal system. I am particularly excited about many of our engaging guest speakers.
How do you foster student engagement in your classes? What strategies are most effective in creating a dynamic online learning environment?
I enjoy learning about each student's background to tailor the course to the student's strengths and needs.
Are there any emerging trends or changes in your field that you find particularly intriguing or promising?
Increasing our understanding and engagement with AI is key to running an effective and ethical law practice, and we need to infuse these skills into our courses.
Preparing students to work internationally and across cultural lines is essential to the future of law practice. We are a global community.
What do you do for fun?
I enjoy traveling, and this past summer I hiked the Camino de Santiago from Porto to Santiago, Spain (see photo above!).
