Prepare For Fall By Adjusting Irrigation

Time to cut watering frequency and duration

Shorter days, cooler temperatures, and early fall rain showers greatly decrease the need for irrigation. Our landscapes water demand is reduced by up to 65% in the fall months. Please see our suggested cuts to shrubs and lawn watering, and also note the monthly decrease in plant watering below:

  • Decrease watering shrubs from once every four days in summer to once every 7 to 11 days during fall

  • Reduce watering lawns to once every three to four days in fall

You may also reduce water waste by turning off your irrigation system before it rains. If you have an automatic rain shut-off switch, be sure it is operational and set to suspend watering for at least two days.

Collect water run-off and decrease your bill

Rainwater catchment systems are a great way to offset your water consumption and potentially decrease your bill. These systems harvest rainwater run-off from the roof using a gutter system to collect the water in a barrel, which can then be stored and used for irrigation purposes.

Customers are eligible for District reimbursement after installing a rainwater catchment system. Be sure to get pre-approval from the District before starting your project or buying any materials.
