Hi Neighbor,
As we head into the rainy season, help prevent flooding in your street by Adopting a Storm Drain! All San José residents, businesses, schools, and community groups can help make a difference by keeping our storm drains clear. Volunteers will receive tools and training on maintenance techniques and safety.
Halloween is quickly approaching, and this year, it falls on a Friday night. Our neighborhood streets will come alive with trick-or-treaters in fun costumes and families enjoying the festivities! I urge everyone to exercise extra caution when crossing the street or driving through residential areas; it goes a long way towards keeping our community safe during the holiday.
I will be joining our San Jose Firefighters at Station 31 to hand out glow sticks and candy. Join us at 3100 Ruby Ave from 5pm until supplies last.
Lastly, the District 8 Community Survey is LIVE and we'd like to hear from you; filling out the survey will take no more than 5 minutes! Help my office improve our neighborhoods by giving us your feedback on the issues that matter most to you. Your response will help us ensure equity and inclusivity when planning our events and activations for the year!
It is my pleasure and privilege to serve as your City Councilmember,

Breast Cancer Awareness
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month — a powerful reminder that early detection saves lives. Schedule your mammogram, know the signs, and encourage your loved ones to do the same!

Tommie Smith & John Carlos Day
October 16th marks Smith and Carlos Day in the City of San Jose, commemorating their powerful act of protest during the 1968 Olympic medal ceremony. In response to the racial injustices and poverty facing Black Americans—issues they experienced in San José and at San José State—they removed their shoes, bowed their heads, and raised their fists, symbolizing both prayer and power.
I proudly presented the proclamation to San Jose State with Councilmembers Campos, Casey, and Tordillos during our panel discussion,
"From Speed City to City Hall".

Walk to End Alzheimer's Silicon Valley
It was an honor to recognize and commend the Walk to End Alzheimer’s Silicon Valley Committee for their outstanding dedication and tireless commitment to organizing the annual walk. Their efforts bring together families, caregivers, advocates, and community partners in the fight against the disease.
I'd also like to applaud the thousands of participants who come out each year to support this cause!

On October 7th, the City Council approved master service agreements with various consulting firms to support planning and policy work across multiple departments. These firms provide expertise in six key areas (land‑use planning, environmental review, traffic impact analysis, community engagement, and public finance).
These agreements are intended to streamline and speed up project initiation, allowing the City to issue task orders directly without running full procurement processes each time. Initial work in 2025–26 is expected to include the General Plan review, downtown zoning ordinance updates, and support for transportation and parks planning.
..
I have said this before— the planning process directly impacts how our neighborhoods grow, connect, and thrive, so make your voice heard.
There will be a community meeting, led by the City Planning Department, to discuss the ongoing review process for the proposed project on the former Pleasant Hills Golf Course site and to hear your feedback on the Environmental Impact Report (EIR).
EIR Public Scoping Meeting
August Boeger Middle School, Cafeteria
Wednesday, October 29th
6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
If you are unable to make the meeting and would still like to submit comments, you can submit your written responses via email to Reema.Mahamood@sanjoseca.gov. The City will accept comments on the Scope of the EIR until 5:00 p.m. on November 14, 2025.
For more information, please visit the Pleasant Hills Golf Course Redevelopment website.
