Help Howard County Students Start School Ready to Learn

Prepare for Success (PFS) is celebrating its 25th year of helping Howard County students start the school year with the supplies they need to succeed. Last year, thanks to generous community support, PFS provided backpacks filled with essential school supplies to a record 5,300 local students.

The need remains significant. Over 18,000 Howard County students qualify for Free and Reduced-Price Meals, and many families struggle with the cost of back-to-school supplies, especially in a time of inflation. 



Oakland Mills has proudly supported Prepare for Success since the program began. This all-volunteer effort works in partnership with the Howard County Public School System and the Community Action Council. Every dollar donated goes directly toward purchasing school supplies for local students.

Our village office is once again serving as a collection site. Donations of new school supplies are welcomed through mid-August, along with collection locations at Howard County libraries and Columbia Association facilities.

Monetary donations and purchases through the Prepare for Success Amazon Wish List are also welcome and tax-deductible.
