PG&E Anticipates Power Shutoffs Starting Saturday Night
Many areas of Contra Costa in planned outage area

PG&E is notifying communities throughout the state to prepare for possible power shut-offs due to high winds and dry conditions.

The projected outage is slated to go from 10:00 pm on Saturday, October 26th, through the afternoon of Monday, October 28th.

Several areas of Contra Costa County could be affected. In West County, this includes parts of  Richmond, El Sobrante, Pinole, El Cerrito, and all of Kensington.  Other areas of the County slated to lose power include  Orinda, Lafayette, Moraga, and parts of Walnut Creek, Concord, Baypoint and Pittsburg.

An estimated 120,000 County residents might lose power.

This can change, depending on weather conditions.
  • For an updated PG&E map of planned outage areas click here.
  • You can also enter your address on PG&E's site, to see if you're in an area slated to lose power.
  • PG&E's 24 hour power outage number is: 1-800-743-5002

For power outage updates and information, check the Contra Costa County website, which includes a map.

For information on school closures if the outage extends through Monday, check the West Contra Costa schools webpage . If schools close, parents and guardians will get calls from the district.

While power outage plans can shift, it's best to be prepared. These simple steps can help.
  • Charge your cell phone, laptop, and other devices
  • Fuel or charge your personal vehicle
  • Have extra cash, medications, water and non-perishable food on hand for all members of your household, including pets
  • Have an emergency preparedness kit
  • Check on vulnerable neighbors, family or friends BEFORE power is turned off, to see if they need help. (Frail elderly, people with disabilities, people with illnesses.)
  • Additional County information on preparing for power losses.

Additional information:

  • For emergencies call 911. 911 will work during an outage.
  • PG&E says that power outage will not affect home gas service. There is no need to shut off the gas.
  • BART trains will be operating if there is a power shutoff.
My office is trying to stay up on the latest power outage information. Don't hesitate to call to see if we can help you or direct you to someone who can. 510-231-8686.
