My mentor, Fr. Francis Martin, would express in his Advent homilies that while we are not experiencing a new physical birth of baby Jesus, we DO and SHOULD expect a rebirth in this time.
The maji came to Jesus bearing gifts. Jesus now, comes bearing gifts. As we prepare for and celebrate his arrival, he comes in a new way to his church, to us collectively and individually, offering gifts, each to his or her own need and openness.
