Empowering families to advocate for themselves so that children with special educational needs can reach their full potential in education and life - through support, training, and education.
IEP Meetings - Start preparing now!

We are currently in the throes of winter in Missouri and are learning just how cold winter can be!  But, before you know it, the weather and seasons will be change. And, with a new season that marks the end of the school year, thousands of parents in Missouri will begin preparing for yearly IEP meetings.

It's a fact - IEP meetings can be incredibly stressful! This is true for parents who are new to the IEP process, as well as veteran parents.   However, being prepared for these meetings, and knowing what to expect, can lessen this inevitable stress and anxiety.

One way to be prepared is to understand your rights.  This fact sheet from MPACT can help you understand what these rights are:  Parent Participation Fact Sheet

Another way that you can prepare yourself is by understanding the different components of an IEP.  You can learn about this here:   IEP Components

Talking to other parents who have been through the process can also help tremendously.  In this video, from Understood.org, hear from two veteran parents on what they wish they'd known before their IEP meetings.

And remember, you're not alone!  Be sure to contact MPACT if we can help you through this process!
