Cookies with Santa was back this year and our staff really enjoyed putting this event on for the first time since December of 2019. We expanded the event to include some additional activities and even a hot chocolate station. Our new Education Center building was perfect for the event and even allowed for guests so visit the brand-new Welcome Center and learn about Ohio native wildlife and plants.
Another highlight of December was our second annual Winter Camp. This camp allows youth a chance to get out of the house and enjoy 3 days full of Deerassic activities during their winter break from school. The attendees had a great time and help cement this camp as a favorite in the schedule.
While the month of December is traditionally slow for school groups, the education team did manage to visit 3 schools as part of our “Deerassic on the Go” program. We also hosted Indian Valley 3rd grade students on a field trip before their winter break. The students had a great time learning about the outdoors and can’t wait to come back.
We are looking forward to the coming months and hope to see you here at Deerassic Park soon.

Maple Syrup season is just around the corner! Our Wild Wednesday presentation this month will cover all sorts of things in preparation in collecting and making it yourself! Be sure to check out the flyer below! This month’s question is… how many gallons of maple sap does it take to produce just one delicious gallon of fresh maple syrup?

Brumation is the process of when reptiles slow down during cold temperatures. They stop eating and become inactive. It’s different from hibernation in that during brumation, the reptiles are not technically in a sleeping state but rather have a slowed down metabolism that requires them to eat less. As an ectotherm — an animal that relies on an external source of heat — a turtle’s body temperature tracks

The January installment of Wild Wednesday's will feature Christine Gelley! She will Prepare us for Maple Syrup Season!
They’re little, orange with black speckles, and invade homes and structures in search of a place to winter. You may even confuse it with a ladybug… The Asian Lady Beetle has been showing up yet again this year and making a bit of a nuisance of itself. Like the stink bug, the Asian Lady Beetle is not a native species of Ohio. It was introduced in the 1990s for natural aphid and mite control. Unfortunately, they turned out to be more harm than good. But don’t get them confused with Ladybugs! Here’s a diagram to help show the difference!
Thank You Campers!
Thank you again to all who made it out to Winter Camp 2021! It was yet another successful camp and was even better than the 1st annual Winter Camp! We didn’t have the most cooperative weather but the staff and the kids made the most of it and didn’t let it effect their good time and had a blast all week!
That’ll wrap up camps for the year and was our second and final seasonal camp for the year! We thank all parents and campers who came out to camps this summer and to our seasonal fall and winter camps! We look forward to having you all back again in 2022 and look forward to all new campers for the upcoming season as well! Camps will start back up June of 2022 and we’ll be working to get those ready on the website and brochures over the next few months and look to announce dates and registration sometime this spring! Thanks again and we’ll see you again soon!
