HQ Happenings
Dear UCEA, we are officially on Countdown to Convention!

This Spotlight is full of information, so please grab a cup of coffee, find a quiet place, and read on …

The portal for submitting vaccine verification or negative test results is now open! UCEA contracted with EventScan to collect, secure, and verify in-person attendees’ information. You can find more information on our updated COVID Convention page, including the link to the pre-screening questionnaire. Please, please, please keep in mind that there will be NO ON-SITE registration this year!!

Starting October 22, join us for “FAQ Fridays” where we’ll share all manner of updates on Convention. Follow us on Twitter (@UCEA), LinkedIn , Instagram (@uceawesome), and Facebook (@Ucea Leadership-Matters). Snapchat and TikTok coming soon!

Quick reminder to tune in to our UCEA Café series. Our colleagues Drs. Terri Watson and Irene Yoon provided in-depth, honest, critical, and love-filled conversations for us. You don’t want to miss it so take a listen!

It is my sad duty to share the passing of a dear and longtime friend of UCEA, Dr. Jay D. Scribner. He possessed a keen mind, a kind heart, and a generous soul. His mentorship of first-generation scholars and scholars of color was a lifelong commitment and his gift to many in our field. His scholarly pursuits and leadership within and outside of UCEA laid the foundation for others to pursue their own activism and professional trajectories. While many within UCEA may not have had the chance to meet or know him, his work will continue as each of us mentors the next generation of scholars and leaders. Our deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and former students. For more information on his life see this post from his “hometown” newspaper in Bangor, Maine.

A final appreciation for all of you, for all your hard work keeping programs and students afloat over the past twenty months, for taking care of your families and each other, and for your support and commitment to UCEA. Muchas gracias!

As always, feel free to reach out to any of us at Headquarters!

Adelante UCEA!

School Labor Shortages

In a closely related topic, many schools are also experiencing labor shortages in support positions like food service workers, custodians, nurses, and bus drivers. Shortages in instructional staff are common as well.
