JDSF's Fungi-Filled Forays 


Looking to explore the diversity of mushroom species in the forest? The Jackson Demonstration State Forest offers several tours this fall, led by a CAL FIRE State Forest Biologist. During these tours, you'll learn about the importance of fungi in our ecosystems. How a Research Forest Prepares for a Prescribed Fire


Fire is a natural part of many ecosystems, but when it comes to managing it, preparation is key. Today, we’ll take you behind the scenes to see how our staff prepares for a prescribed fire. Every controlled burn must have a set of objectives. Many projects focus on reducing fuel loads, promoting understory regeneration, improving habitat, or reducing invasive plants. One of the main objectives of this burn is to research the best method to reduce fuel loading in the redwood forest. To achieve this, many steps are needed.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), Jackson Demonstration State Forest invites the public to join facilitated discussions to inform the development of our new 10-year Forest Management Plan.

New CAL FIRE Dashboard Demonstrates the Effectiveness of Fuels Treatment Projects 


Recently, CAL FIRE added a Fuels Treatment Effectiveness Reporting Dashboard to the Fuels Reduction page on the CAL FIRE Website. The dashboard allows users to see where fuels treatment projects have been effective in firefighting efforts in a map view while also viewing written and video reports that have been completed.
