As this year’s election approaches, we are reflecting on the potential impacts it could have on our movements and communities. Like many of you, we are grappling with questions like: How do we navigate these times of deep polarization? How do we address immediate material conditions in New Mexico as we build towards more liberatory and expansive futures? What are the possibilities for healing within our movements? We might not know all the answers, but we do know that no matter what the outcome is next week, our commitment to investing in gender justice and healing remains.
The changing of the seasons reminds us that transformation is possible, even in the most challenging of times. We are acutely aware that key issues such as reproductive rights, LGBTQ rights, and immigrant protection hang in the balance and that holding an intersectional lens is essential at this pivotal moment. Our communities deserve political leadership that acknowledges this and centers varied and intersecting needs. Whatever the electoral results, we will continue to work for gender justice here in New Mexico with the clarity and courage that this moment demands.
