The apostles may have thought that the coming of the kingdom of God was imminent.
"Amen, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom." (Mt 16:28) After Pentecost, they risked everything, life and limb, to spread the word of the return of Jesus to claim his kingdom.
Well, here we are 2000 some years later, still waiting.
- Have we grown weary?
- Have we wavered in our hope?
- Have we given up on asking God for help?
Our children can see when we waver in our faith and hope. Let's strive to be joyful examples of strength, courage, and perseverance for them. In God we have all the strength we need to press on towards the heavenly prize as St. Paul exhorts us.
