Welcome to the New School Year!
|
|
August 27
th is right around the corner! We hope you are as excited as we are. We will be using Friday, August 24
th to “clean up” and transition from summer to our new “school year”. We will say “goodbye” to our friends who are going to Kindergarten next year and our summer campers who will return to school. Then we say “hello” to new friends who are joining us this year; some of you are new to the ELC this year and others will simply be transitioning from one program to the next.
The week of August 27
th will be a week of getting settled into our rhythm for the year. Teachers will welcome your children to their rooms, help new children to settle in, learn new names, and share plans for the months ahead. You as parents will marvel as your child explores and grows in new ways this year; perhaps they will learn to walk, learn new words, or learn to tie their shoes. Maybe they will begin to explore letters, enjoy new books, or make a new friend. Whether you have been at the ELC for years, or are new to us this fall, we look forward to our partnership with you and your child.
Best,
Linda
Interim Director

The infants and toddlers had a magical summer! They explored and experimented both inside and outside of their classrooms, they mastered so many new skills and they bravely accepted new challenges. The best part of the summer was being able to slow down our pace and deepen our friendships. It is a bittersweet time of year for us. We are truly looking forward to welcoming many new friends into our classroom families in September, but with that welcome comes 21 good-byes. We are so proud of our transitioning toddlers!

The beginning of a new ‘school year’ is exciting and filled with possibilities. It’s also a time for some butterflies and questions. I am here to assure you that we have a great plan to make your child’s new beginning in preschool a terrific experience!
Preschool is a time of growth and discovery, through hands-on learning and social experiences. Children learn how to navigate new social experiences, through meeting new friends and being in new spaces. Children also take time to explore new ideas, new practices and ideas of study to enhance their overall experiences, both with friends, with their teachers and individually. We look forward to a time of partnerships, building relationships with families in order to help each child grow.

It’s almost time for school to begin for the 2018-2019 school year! We are excited to start our before and after school program. We serve children up to age 8 for three area schools; Newark Charter, Aspira Academy and West Park Place. If you have signed up for our program, you would have received a newsletter confirmation a few weeks ago. The front desk also has a list of our current classes. If you are still in need of before and/or after school care, please reach out to me at
jpeace@udel.edu
. We are looking to fill our last 6 spots before the start of the school year.

As we begin another school year the business office would like to share some very important information regarding the following items:
We value our relationship with each family and look forward to working together with you. If you have any questions you may stop at the front desk.
Thank you!

In our effort to keep the lines of communication open, we will be offering monthly "Did You Know" segments in our family newsletter.
- Did you know...families are encouraged to contribute to decisions about their child's goals and plans for activities and services?
- Did you know...the ELC facilitates opportunities for families to meet with one another on projects to support the program?
- Did you know...we in invite you to participate in all aspects of the ELC, including volunteering?

As we have been enrolling for the new school year several families have asked about the days the ELC is closed and options for finding alternative care for their children. While the ELC
cannot make recommendations for babysitters, we have seen a need and will be happy to post babysitting jobs on a bulletin board for our part-time subs or UD students to review.
If you are in need of a babysitter you may create your own "posting" no larger than a half sheet of paper with contact information included. You may drop the posting off at the front desk for Kathy. The posting will be added to a bulletin board in our staff hallway. If a part-time sub or UD student is interested in babysitting they will reach out to you. All communication must be made on personal time and
not during working hours at the ELC.
Please understand that the ELC is in no way responsible for "outside" babysitting that is arranged privately between a part time sub or UD student and a family.
