Dear Students and Families,

I hope you made the most of your summer and that you are as excited as we are to be together again in a few short weeks! This time last summer I was eager for you to see the changes and improvements on campus.  Again this summer, we are seeing Tilton spaces transform with beautiful renovations and a ton of hard work by our facilities team. Even with these exciting projects underway, the Hill just isn’t the same without you and we are eager to welcome you back!

Below you will find information about your arrival and early days on campus. Please review the items carefully and respond to any inquiry forms that pertain to you.  You will be receiving information about baseline IMPACT testing from athletics and Health Center updates separately, so please watch for these emails.

Please note that we're updating the website with this info as we go, as well. You can bookmark the Summer Information page for reference.

ARRIVALS

Proctors will return to campus for proctor training on August 30th. We will be attending a leadership workshop at the UNH Browne Center high and low ropes course. We will be departing from campus for the Browne Center at 8 am on August 30th.  Those proctors with long travel times or needing to move items into rooms before we return from training may arrive on Monday, August 29th after 4:30 pm and should contact me at [email protected] to request a Monday arrival. Please watch for a follow-up email with more details.

International Students flying to campus should plan to arrive on Thursday, September 1st. See below for transportation information.

Day student registration is scheduled for Thursday, September 1st.

Boarding student registration will be on the morning of September 2nd, followed by the start of Orientation for all students. A registration schedule is shared at the end of this letter.

STUDENT IDS

To prepare for your arrival, the Technology Office will be preparing your student ID for opening day.  New students: please submit a photo of yourself following the guidelines in this form. Important: in order to complete the form, you will need to sign in using your Tilton email address.

HOUSING & ADVISORY

At this time, new students should have received correspondence from me that included a questionnaire for advisory and housing.  We will finalize housing and advisory placements by early next week, so you should watch for information regarding housing assignments then. Please remember as you are packing and planning to check the updated “What to Pack List'' for reminders of what (and what not) to bring! Please do not bring a couch,  fridge, or hotplate just to haul it back home! Returning students should note a change to our permissible items regarding tv or monitor screens. Screens should be no larger than 40” in diameter and each student is permitted one external screen - either TV or monitor, but not both. You can find the updated Dress Code on the website as well. Remember, sweatshirts are only permissible if they are “Tilton” apparel!

TRANSPORTATION & LEAVES

Ms. Donahue is joining the Student Life Office as our new Leave Coordinator!  Ms. Donahue will oversee all Leave requests, travel arrangements and vehicle permissions. (Please note, Ms. Johnson will still be responsible for approving “Academic Leaves,” which means any Leave that includes a missed obligation.  In addition, she will still oversee attendance.)

INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT ARRIVALS

If you are an international student traveling to campus by air, please be sure to provide Ms. Donahue with your flight details if you have not already. If you need assistance getting to Tilton from the airport we will offer a Tilton bus leaving Logan at 8 pm on Thursday, September 1.  You will need to provide this request and travel information as soon as possible. If you are unable to meet this shuttle, Ms. Donahue can provide you with contacts for private transport companies. She can be reached at [email protected].

VEHICLES & AFTERNOON ACTIVITIES

We have a lot of exciting projects and movements happening on campus and it will be important that we have an accurate account of vehicles parked on campus this year. If you plan to drive yourself to school (day students or MacMorran Scholars), please complete the Vehicle Registration Form. If you have questions or a special circumstance that you need to discuss, please contact Ms. Donahue at [email protected] and complete the form as well. Please be aware that we are especially restricted with parking space this year.

CAMPUS SAFETY DRILLS

We will work with students to practice campus safety protocols during Orientation and throughout the year. Please be aware that we will be conducting our Campus Lockdown Drill on Thursday, September 8th. This includes testing our Community-Wide Alert System. For any international student who does not yet have a U.S. cell number on arrival, you will need to go to the following link and follow instructions to install the ALERTME by REGROUP app on your phone. We ask that you obtain a U.S. cell number as soon as possible on arrival and provide this number to the Student Life Office. Any student without a U.S. number is required to install this app.

REGISTRATION SCHEDULE

As I close, I am sharing the Registration Schedule. Key Registration times are shared to help families plan. Students will receive a detailed guide for our Orientation Program closer to Opening day and their Registration packet to help guide them through the week.

Day students and families, we look forward to welcoming you on Thursday, September 1st! We'd love to see everyone at our Day Student and Family Ice Cream Social following Registration at 3:45 p.m. in Skinner Tower—you can register at this link. If you have any questions about Opening Days, please contact Pamela deVeaux, Director of Alumni & Parent Engagement.

In review, I have shared two forms (one for vehicles and one for new student photos for IDs), dress code, and information about what to pack. International students were reminded to share flight information and ensure they obtain a U.S. phone number. And most importantly, I shared our excitement about your return!

As always, please reach out if you have any questions. Faculty and staff are filtering back to campus and the energy is wonderful. We cannot wait to see our returnees again and it will be such a pleasure to welcome our new students to the family!

Be well and enjoy these late days of summer,

Ms. Love
