Dear Neighbor,

This week, Maine was hit hard by a significant storm that caused widespread wind damage and devastating flooding in many communities.

Now, as many are still grappling with the aftermath of this storm, more extreme weather is predicted for this weekend – with severe wind, snow and rain potentially causing power outages, major flooding and infrastructure damage.

With this in mind, I wanted to share some resources and information to help folks prepare, as well as to continue recovering following this week’s storm.

I hope everyone stays safe, and I urge you to always follow the direction of local emergency officials to protect yourselves and your property.

Sincerely,

Sally Cluchey

FLOOD SAFETY RESOURCES

Many communities experienced significant flooding this week and will likely see more flooding this weekend. Remember, it is never safe to walk through flowing water or drive through flooded roads.

REPORTING DAMAGE

Mainers who own commercial infrastructure that sustained property damage from the Jan. 10 storm – including wharfs, floats, vessels, etc. – are urged to document and report that damage by filling out the Business and Agriculture Initial Damage Assessment Survey. Individuals who experienced damage to their primary residence should report them to 211 or fill out this survey.

While neither of these surveys are an application for assistance nor a guarantee of financial assistance, submitting this information will help the State of Maine best understand the extent of the damage.
