Last, but not least: email safety | |
"Can I trust you to assist me with an important mission and keep it discreet?"
It's okay to be suspicious! by Collette Lynner
| |
The Presbytery of San Jose fell prey to an email scam campaign designed to entice trusting souls to send prepaid gift cards to strangers online. To our knowledge, nobody got hurt.
Here are Basic email safety rules to employ on suspicious messages:
- DONT click on weird attachments
- DO look at the email address listed in the from: field and reply-to: field
- REMEMBER that the real domain name is the last two segments: for example, www.real-looking-site.com.fakety.fake.com is a scammer in disguise.
If you're asked to do something out of the ordinary for the Presbytery that involves money or passwords, always get confirmation by voice or in person.
