An Update from Our Search Team for the Stated Clerk
|
|
Our July 24th deadline has come and passed, and we currently have not received any applications for the position. Therefore, we will not be able to present a candidate to the August 24th Presbytery Gathering. We are required by the denomination to fill this position upon the ending of Joy Myers’ term in November, but the longer it takes to present a candidate, the less time they’ll have to shadow and train! Therefore, we are extending our deadline to apply to Sunday, September 24th. Candidates will be requested to fill out supplemental questions upon indication of their interest. Finalists will be notified by October 1st, and interviews will be scheduled on Tuesday, October 17th and Wednesday October 18th. Please send your letter of interest and resume, Personal Information Form (PIF), or CV to Donna Schiro, pastordonnatcpc@gmail.com.
Please include your name in the subject line of your email and title all documents in the upper left corner with your first and last name.
Whatever gifts you bring, we can use them together in this position!

Presbyterian Women Giving Day
“PW Gives” Day is a day to celebrate and support all that Presbyterian Women make possible. July 31 was selected to commemorate the July 1988 formation of today’s Presbyterian Women, from the merger of its two predecessor organizations. Thirty-five years later (and innumerable ministries supported), Presbyterian Women continues to address the world’s needs and build a loving community.
Your gift to Presbyterian Women makes possible a wide variety of PW ministries at all levels of the church.

Jesus & Justice Advocacy Conference
New Young Adult Advocacy Conference This Fall
October 20-22
The Jesus & Justice Advocacy Conference will be Oct. 20-22 at the Presbyterian Center, near Waterfront Park, and will be replicated across the country over the next few years. The first one is mainly intended for people who live in the Louisville-Southern Indiana area or within a short drive, but there also will be ways to participate in some sessions remotely.
“A primary goal is to connect with young adults who are interested in justice advocacy, especially those who want to engage from a faith perspective,” said the Rev. Jimmie Hawkins, who leads the Presbyterian Office of Public Witness and the Presbyterian Ministry at the United Nations. “There are those who want to do more, to make a difference, but are unsure how to begin and the intricacies of networking and coalition building.”
To register, go here. To view videos about the conference, go here.

Tips for Caring for God's Amazing Creation:
Put an insulating water heating jacket on your hot water heater and turn down the temperature to 110-120 degrees Fahrenheit.
These "jackets" are generally available at any hardware or hardware supply store.
"TIPS" is made possible through the Earth Care Action Group of the presbytery, monitoring the ten Earth Care Congregations of the Presbytery of Giddings-Lovejoy and advocating for people of color, low-income, indigenous, and LGBTQIA+ community who are usually hurt first and most by environmental degradation. APCE NEEDS YOU!
The Association of Partners in Christian Education (APCE) will hold its 2024 Annual Event in St. Louis from January 24th through January 27th at St. Louis Union Station. That's right! APCE AE is coming to ST. LOUIS, and we are SO EXCITED! The Local Committee has been working on this event for the past year, and now we are reaching out to you to ask for your help. We will need volunteers -- LOTS of them -- to provide hospitality to our colleagues in ministry during that week. Right now, we just need to know that you have marked your calendars and that you're willing to be of service. In the fall, we will ask about your availability during the week and your preferences regarding tasks. Please email Julie Gvillo (juliegvillo.aplaceofgrace@gmail.com) and Pat Cleeland (patricia.cleeland@gmail.com) together, so we can start compiling a list of resources. Pastors, please put this announcement in your bulletins. This international event is a huge undertaking, and we are counting on the presbytery to help us deliver! Thank you!

WHAT IS A PLACE OF GRACE? Good question ... thanks for asking! A Place of Grace is a validated ministry of Giddings-Lovejoy Presbytery which provides a number of options for spiritual retreat planning for individuals, couples, families, small groups, businesses, organizations, and churches. The mission is to nurture delight, facilitate healing, and inspire prayer in people of all ages and from all walks of life through creative spiritual practices. A Place of Grace pastor, Julie Gvillo, would love the opportunity to talk with you, your church leaders, or any group within your church about ways in which A Place of Grace offerings might support your ministry. I am currently scheduling dates in August and September to visit with you and your people. Call 618-410-5060 to set up an appointment to have that conversation. I look forward to hearing from you!
