Our Presbytery Gathering was held on November 4th the same day at the Apache Stronghold prayer vigil. We can still join in prayer with them, as they hold vigil to defend their land of religious practice from Resolution Copper mining which threatens to destroy it. The Dismantling the Doctrine of Discovery Coalition will be partnering with the Apache Stronghold and is calling all to be part of this prayer vigil. The Doctrine of Discovery, a legal framework from 15th Century Papal Bulls, was the foundation for the enslavement of African Americans in the country (and others) as well as the removal of and annihilation of Native Americans and continues to be woven throughout the US legal system, including the Supreme Court. In 2016, the PC(USA) General Assembly voted to work to denounce and dismantle the Doctrine of Discovery and called on churches to be partners in Dismantling the Doctrine of Discovery. This year, Pope Francis also denounced the Doctrine of Discovery. Let us join together in this prayer vigil.

This Advent Let's Journey Together
Is your congregation ready to encourage additional generosity before the end of the year? Are your leaders raising awareness of Donor Advised Funds, Qualified Charitable Distributions, and making gifts of securities? Over 25%, and by some accounts more than a third, of annual giving to charities takes place in December each year. Don’t miss out on opportunities to grow generosity in your congregation. On November 15, 2023, at 12 Noon Eastern Time (11 am Central), please join James W. (Jim) Murphy, CFRE of the Episcopal Church Foundation and Greg Rousos, President & CEO of the New Covenant Trust/Presbyterian Foundation, to review a variety of ways to encourage more giving to your community of faith during this most generous time of the year.
