Kenyan Education Giving Challenge Kick-Off
Global Partnerships • Pendo Presbyterian Church • Vision Team
of Presbytery of Giddings Lovejoy
3-Way Partnership to Benefit Kenyan High School Scholarships
|
|
COVID-19 has impacted the Pendo Church and the people of Kenya as it has all of us. The Pendo congregation has been hit especially hard, as the stream of persons emigrating to the United States from Kenya has slowed greatly due to the pandemic. At the same time, members of this congregation have lost many loved ones back home. Of particular need in Kenya at this time is support for high school education. During the pandemic, many students are dropping out of school each year because they cannot pay the small fee associated with attending school.

Matthew 25 Congregation Highlight
|
|
Over the past ten years, Mission Sunday at Webster Groves Presbyterian Church has evolved into Mission Weekend, typically held the first weekend in October. A variety of hands-on projects and collections are organized so that members of the church can sign up to participate in ways that speak to them. Last year when the pandemic required all socially distanced events we weren’t sure if we could still go forward with our Mission Weekend, but we did and it was a wonderful success.
|
|
This year we were able to return to hosting some projects where members worked together, as well as offering projects that people could do on their own. Our Mission Weekend has become an event that the congregation really looks forward to, and it is a key aspect to the Matthew 25 focus of building congregational vitality. While we hope for a large percent of our congregation to participate, it is most important for us to see people of all ages coming together and the energy and love that they bring to their work. Members are engaging with each other, with our partner agencies, and with the mission of serving others. It is wonderful each year to see the love for our neighbors expressed in such concrete ways!

Spiritual Fireside Chat for those with
Mental Health Variances
hosted by Light for the Darkness
Fri, Nov 5 at 7 pm
You are invited to a safe place with others who understand struggles with mental health. It is ok if you are feeling the fear of anxiety or the darkness of depression. We understand. Come sit around the warmth of the fire, the meditative coals, just be, just listen or jump in the discussion if you choose. I'll have some conversation starters to get us going. This monthly gathering is my favorite! Message me or Text me for exact location (Thirza 404.313.4549). Looking forward to meeting you and spending time around the fire.

GA#225 Commissioners Needed
The Presbytery of Giddings-Lovejoy is in need of two Ruling Elders, two Teaching Elders, and One Young Adult Advisory Delegate for the upcoming General Assembly. If you think you might be a good fit or know of someone who is, we would love to hear from you!
The General Assembly consists of commissioners elected by presbyteries. Half of the commissioners will be ruling elders, half will be teaching elders. Few will ever have been commissioners to the General Assembly before, but most will have served in one of the other governing bodies of our church: the session, which provides care and oversight of a local congregation; the presbytery, which provides care and oversight of a group of congregations; or the synod which provides care and oversight of several presbyteries.
