Making the Shift
Rev. Dr. Craig M. Howard
Presbytery Leader
|
“The problem is that many of our churches, leaders, and church systems were designed to respond to the modern age and the problems of the modern age. We are now in the postmodern age, and fixes from the modern age often fall short.”

After first responders do their work first, we have a lot of work to do...But for people who want to go help in areas impacted by headline-making natural disasters — and even some that have not made national news but need help all the same — Roberts and the PDA call center are the place to go.

Uprooting Hunger - 2019 Presbytery Wide Goal
|
|
P
resbytery Wide Goal in 2019
Fighting hunger is at the heart of our Presbyterian understanding of mission. Jesus fed the hungry and told his disciples to do the same. Yet, we know that hunger is an extremely complex phenomenon with economic, political and social causes. A local congregation can make a huge impact on local hunger. Thankfully Presbyterian churches are feeding hungry people in their neighborhoods with food pantries, soup kitchens, community meals, community gardens, backpack programs and more.

Opportunity to Talk about the Confessions
Beginning February 6
The immediate past moderator of the presbytery is named Willock ~ which is also the name of the first moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. That Willock, along with 5 other Johns, including John Knox, wrote the Scots Confession in 1560 in just 4 days. While some of the confession uses what we now consider intemperate language, it contains many of the foundational ideas which continue to guide the Presbyterian Church USA. Want to know more? Come join the conversation Wednesday, February 13, on the second floor of Eden Seminary at 9 am.
See all details here. Contact Rev. Barbara Willock, for more information at
bwill2@mindspring.com.

Presbyterian Peace Fellowship Gun Violence Prevention Program
"Gracious God, ...You encourage us to be our best... We confess that we have not done our best in protecting our children...Grant us a good and fresh start."
Following on the 223rd General Assembly action on gun violence prevention, our hope is that you share the links below with your congregations. As we observe the February 17 Universal Day of Prayer for Students and the February 14 Anniversary of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, let us seek the unique role of the church in healing our nation. The downloadable Kit contains prayers, hymns, worship and action ideas, including the prayer adopted by the 223rd General Assembly.
