Through this training course, clergy will learn the three basic types of interpersonal boundaries and the implications of each type for ministry. The presentation will encourage clergy to think about boundaries from a developmental, systemic, and existential frame of reference. Potential boundary conflicts for clergy will be identified as well as effective approaches for reducing and mediating common boundary conflicts in ministry.

About the presenter: Christopher Grimes, Psy.D. is a clinical psychologist and director of the Program for Psychology and Religion at St. Louis Behavioral Medicine Institute. Dr. Grimes and his staff specialize in the assessment and treatment of clergy and lay ministers, evaluating clients, and providing direction for the psychological and social aspects of formation, treatment, and future growth of religious professionals and candidates for ordination and religious vocations. Dr. Grimes is an ordained ruling elder in the Presbyterian Church-USA and he is a member of Dardenne Presbyterian Church, Dardenne Prairie, MO.

Presbyterian Women Bible Study

The Presbyterian Women of Giddings Lovejoy are planning to offer a Bible Study from Horizons – What My Grandmothers taught me; The Women in the Genealogy of Jesus. Some of those grandmothers include Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba, and Mary. The study will be via Zoom and begin later in September, with one study per month for 9 months. The primary activity of LivingUNDIVIDED is a six-week multi-racial experiential journey in pursuit of racial solidarity and justice. Each week includes faith grounding, teaching, small group conversations, activities, and assignments that engage multiple learning styles. The journey fosters belonging, hope, and deep community engagement, inspiring participants to be active change-agents within their communities.

As part of our commitment to the tenets of Matthew 25, Trinity Presbyterian Church, University City, is organizing a discussion via zoom featuring Mark Rank, the Herbert Hadley Professor of Social Welfare at Washington University. Mark is one of America’s foremost experts on issues of poverty, inequality, and social justice. He has written 10 books on a range of subjects, including the role of luck in shaping the course of our lives. He will be talking about a new book he has co-authored, Poorly Understood: What America gets wrong about poverty.

The two-day event serves as an optional gateway to the MLI Instructional Cohort Program and certification. The retreat, held at a partner church in Prairie Village, Kansas, begins with a noon lunch on Monday and ends at 5 p.m. Tuesday. Class topics include working with volunteers, developing teaching techniques with students, identifying leadership strengths, budgeting trips and events, organizational strategies, and more.

According to our PC(USA) Book of Order, “the ministry of deacon as set forth in Scripture is one of compassion, witness, and service . . .” The ways that this ministry is lived out varies from one congregation to another, depending on the culture, context, and needs of the church and the broader community. In this third webinar of The Year of Leader Formation series, join a panel of deacons, pastors, and ruling elders in exploring this vital ordered ministry of the church. You will have an opportunity to hear about the ways that the gifts and skills of deacons are used within congregational ministries, community impacts of deacon ministries, and the connection between discipleship and deacons. There will be an opportunity for questions, answers, and further exploration of the way God is moving through the deacons of the PC(USA).
