It is with sadness that we report the passing of Mr. T-Rex, Pastoral Care and Therapy Dog, on October 24.
In Mr. T-Rex' lifetime, he had a huge impact in local churches, our Presbytery, GA#223, and beyond. The joy that he brought into the lives of those he interacted with, will not be forgotten.

While Staying Safe
During a Pandemic

Third Presbyterian Church - Moline Acres
Third Presbyterian Church has, as part of its mission, the desire to help strengthen academic opportunities for those children attending schools within the three neighboring school districts.
|
|
In mid-August, the church learned from families, who are served in the Third church pre-school program, that many of the school age youth within the community would need to do remote learning at home. Further, one school district was not accepting new students who were recent preschool graduates. In an effort to support the parents who needed to work and were unable to stay home with their children, the church decided to offer an in person kindergarten class and a virtual class for elementary and middle school students. Accommodating the students who began attending the program required setting up an open floor plan, with social distancing of tables and chairs, installing more computers and boosting the Wi-Fi strength within the area, with increased multiple outlets. Serving students from the three different school districts, with different schedules, as well as the need for assistance in completing schoolwork assignments, allowing for a time for different breaks and social activity group activities, came to make the efforts most challenging.
|
|
Third Church remains resolute in the goal to provide this service to the community so that working parents can be assured that their children are in a safe, nurturing environment while they are at work. Third church has assured the families in attendance that the church will continue to provide these virtual classes until the three school districts are able to return students full time to their respective schools.

Tips for Caring for God's Amazing Creation
Buy local....and not just your food!
Whenever you can, buy food and other things locally (within 50 or 100 miles) to avoid waste of resources, pollution, and contribution to global warming from cargo aircraft and trucks. And it will help create jobs by stimulating economic activity.
"TIPS" is brought to you by the Earth Care Team of the presbytery composed of representatives from the nine Certified Earth Care Congregations in the presbytery. For information about doing Earth Care actions in your congregation, contact [email protected] or (314) 941-9378.

COVID19 & Seasonal Flu Shouldn't Mix
Flu season during a pandemic calls for urgency and ingenuity, which can mean getting vaccinated in your car or even in a hockey arena.
St. Louis area health providers are trying to make it easy and safe to get a flu shot this year by offering free drive-thru events throughout the community and even a walk-in location on Oct. 17 at downtown’s massive Enterprise Center where the St. Louis Blues play.
If you do not live in the St. Louis Area, please consult with your local Health Department for guidance on where you can get your Flu Shot. If you don't know how to contact your local health department, the following links will direct you to the appropriate office.

2020 Pivot Grant for
New Worshiping Communities
2020 has challenged all of us, and we know those challenges pose unique threats to our youngest faith communities who are particularly vulnerable to un-budgeted costs and perhaps a decline in financial support.
New Worshiping Communities recognized by their presbytery are invited to apply for a one-time Pivot Grant of $1000 to assist with shifting programs, new training, or unanticipated expenses due to the pandemic or racial injustices in your community. The application is simple and awards will be made on a first come, first served basis - so communities must act quickly! Applications can be submitted by clicking here.

Technology Grants - Wave 2
When COVID-19 began to spread across the United States, Giddings-Lovejoy congregations responded in amazing ways to continue their worship and ministries. I am in awe. Congregations have stretched themselves beyond what they thought they were capable of doing. As I like to say, the building may be closed, but the church is not!
|
|
Please submit your grant request to [email protected]. Note in the subject line Second Wave Grant.
In your request, include the church’s name and address, contact person and email address, and what the grant will be used for.
By the way, First Wave Grants are still available. Please contact Liz Kanerva at the above email for more information.
