Presbyterian Church leaders ask for healing in Chicago
Mid Council Gathering holds prayer as verdict announced in police officer’s murder trial
The Rev. Dr. Craig Howard, with the Presbytery of Giddings-Lovejoy, and the Rev. Sue Krummel, with the Presbytery of Chicago, react to the verdict in the murder trial of a Chicago police officer. Photo by Rick Jones.
A Chicago police officer has been found guilty of second degree murder in the shooting death of a seventeen-year-old teenager. A few miles away, attendees of the Mid Council Leaders Gathering discussed Fearless Dialogues, a grassroots movement and organization that encourages people to have hard discussions, break down barriers, and build respect and relationships.

What's Happening? Did you know?
- Presbyterian Giving Catalog inspires Soup for Goats project The soup at Heritage Presbyterian Church in Glendale, Arizona, is a recipe for encouraging mission support. A Sunday school class composed of elementary and middle-school students generated mission interest earlier this year through a soup-making venture aimed at helping Presbyterian Mission. They assembled the ingredients, put them in jars they had labeled, and sold the mixture to the congregation. The children used the proceeds to give a pair of goats, a family of chickens, a piglet and six refugee food baskets through the Presbyterian Giving Catalog.
