Tiger King Goes to Church
Blog Post by Rev. Bill Perman
First Presbyterian Church, St. Louis
(University City)
" It can happen with people who say they love tigers, and it can happen with people who say they love Jesus. In either case, when things fall apart, they start eating one another."

Holy Week, Easter Hope, and also I Hate Roller Coasters
"This is the kind of Holy Week I am coming into in 2022. Our experience of suffering may find a clear mirror this year in the story of the cross.

Yet, against all of this despair, the community of faith has taught me to have hope. Hope that the sun will rise and the tomb will be empty. Hope that our incarnate God is present with us now, just as God has been with us all along..."

Confirmation for the Matthew 25 Congregation:
Commissioned to Change the World
In the spirit of Matthew 25:31-46, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) seeks to act boldly and compassionately to serve people who are hungry, oppressed, imprisoned and poor, showing God’s love, justice and mercy. In so doing, congregations will enliven their shared faith, shared worship and shared outreach in a biblical response to the compassionate justice of God.
Commissioned to Change the World: Confirmation for the Matthew 25 Congregation, written by Mark D. Hinds, marries adolescent confirmation with the theological focus of “serving the least of these.” The curriculum affirms teenagers as God’s beloved children, anointed for ministry in the context of a covenant community of mutual encouragement and accountability.
Bibles Wanted
Hospitals receive ample supply of KJV NT/Psalms provided by the Gideons, but when it comes to other translations we are very limited in our supply as well as in our ability to obtain copies. Do you have Bibles that you might be interested in donating to a Hospital Spiritual Care Department? If you, your church, or a mission would be interested in providing these Bibles, please contact Rev. Jay Kanerva [email protected]
Giddings-Lovejoy People of Prayer
Do you love your pastor? Want the best for them? Not sure how to care for them?
We have just started a New Worshiping Community for pastors, who are reaching out for care. According to a recent study, over seventy percent of pastors “almost always feel burned out.”
We are inviting you to support our Faith Leaders in prayer.
Who: People of prayer who want to support pastors, clergy, and chaplains
When: April 26, 12-1pm. This is the Kick-off event for Our Selah—this new worshiping support group for Faith Leaders.
Where: Zoom
Skills required: Besides prayer, must be knowledgeable of Zoom and capable of Zoom chatting.
Commitment: We will meet every other Tuesday (if you need to miss one, we can cover you but need to know ahead of time).
You will be assigned 3-5 clergy, for whom you will pray between sessions and reach out to once via email.
RSVP: For more information and a brief training, please contact Rev. Thirza Sayers, [email protected]

The purpose of the grant is to provide opportunities for summer Christian education and witness, personal growth, faith formation, and recreation (if sanctioned by the local government) to children and adults in communities of need.
The Art of Transitional Ministry
Sponsored by Montreat Conference Center, in cooperation with the Transitional Ministry Education Consortium.
Leading a congregation and faith community through transition is challenging and rewarding. It is recognized both in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and in other denominations as a specialized ministry. It takes knowledge, skill, resilience, and spiritual strength to navigate the waters of transition in a way that allows a congregation and its leaders to be open to possibilities, go deeper and thrive. The Art of Transitional Ministry offers education in the skills and understanding necessary for leading a congregation and faith community in transition.
There are two offerings of this course, one in-person, and one virtual. If traveling to Montreat is not the best fit for you right now, you can still experience the Art of Transitional Ministry from the comfort of your own home (or office). Participants will follow a slightly modified schedule from the participants who are in residence and will be required to do more advanced preparation for the event.
Pastors Save the Dates of May 15-20
Mid-America and Lincoln Trails Synod have announced they will have Transitional Ministry Training at the Mercy Center in St Louis May 15-20, 2022. Please watch the newsletter or other direct emails for further information.
